Job description
Position Overview
This full-time position is based in Long Island City, Queens, at 30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101, with a 35-hour workweek. The role reports directly to the Director of ADA Compliance within the NYC Department of Design and Construction’s Division of Public Buildings. The primary responsibility is to support the interpretation and implementation of the 2010 ADA Standards, Chapter 11 of the NYC Building Code, and other relevant laws concerning accessibility in capital projects.
Core Responsibilities
- Review design work from external consultants to ensure ADA compliance.
- Participate in interagency meetings involving design consultants and internal DDC staff.
- Contribute to staff training and development initiatives related to accessibility.
- Conduct weekly site inspections during construction phases to monitor ADA and accessibility compliance.
Candidate Eligibility and Requirements
Applicants must be currently permanent in the Project Manager Intern title or reachable on the Open-Competitive list #5114 and should submit proof such as a Notice of Result card. Candidates must be authorized to work full-time in the U.S. without the need for visa sponsorship. Foreign educational credentials require equivalency verification from a recognized accrediting body.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering, architecture, construction, urban planning, business administration, or related fields; or
- A first professional master’s degree in architecture from an accredited university.
Preference is given to candidates with at least 1 year of experience related to design and construction accessibility (excluding web accessibility). Demonstrated expertise in the 2010 ADA Standards and NYC Building Code Chapter 11 is highly advantageous. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the capability to work collaboratively or independently are essential.
