Overview
Control Panels USA Inc. is looking for a Junior Mechanical Designer specializing in sheet metal to become part of their expanding engineering team. The role focuses on designing 3D sheet metal components, preparing detailed manufacturing drawings, and programming CNC laser cutting and press brake machines. This position acts as a vital link between engineering and production, aiming to optimize part design for ease of manufacture, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Design sheet metal parts using CAD platforms such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Inventor.
- Create comprehensive 3D models, calculate bend deductions, and produce fabrication-ready drawings.
- Develop CNC laser cutting layouts, including nesting, tool path programming, and material utilization strategies.
- Assist in press brake setup, focusing on bend sequencing and tooling selection.
- Interpret engineering blueprints, customer specifications, and technical drafts confidently.
- Enhance designs to improve manufacturability and reduce production costs.
- Choose appropriate materials, thickness levels, and tolerance specifications.
- Work collaboratively with production teams to troubleshoot fabrication challenges.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure manufactured components fulfill design criteria.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation, including revision control and job records.
Requirements
- At least one year of professional experience in mechanical design with a concentration in sheet metal work.
- Proficient use of 3D CAD software.
- Familiarity with laser cutting technologies such as Bystronic, Trumpf, or Amada is a plus but not mandatory.
- Working knowledge of press brake operations and setups.
- Understanding of key sheet metal concepts like bend allowances, K-factor, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to read and analyze technical drawings and specifications.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Good communication skills and an aptitude for teamwork.
- Solid grasp of sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Experience in CNC laser cutting and press brake machine operations.
- CAD modeling and technical drafting expertise.
- Adept at managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Exceptional customer service capabilities.
- Professional attitude with technical proficiency, including Microsoft Office tools.
