Menkem International Business PLC has been operating for more than 15 years and is based in Kality, Addis Ababa. Through its logistics arm, Menkem Logistics, the company has been active in Ethiopia’s transport sector for the last 7 years. Its services cover the movement of food and non-food goods, warehousing, port clearance, and transit work through Djibouti. As the business grows, it is looking for people who want to develop their careers in a fast-moving logistics setting.
Role Summary
This is a full-time, on-site position for a Junior Dispatcher in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The role focuses on organizing daily transport movements, allocating trucks and drivers, and making sure shipments leave on schedule for destinations within Ethiopia and nearby countries.
What You Will Do
- Plan and coordinate daily dispatch schedules.
- Allocate vehicles and drivers according to transport requirements.
- Track vehicle movement and monitor progress until delivery.
- Keep shipment status updated and communicate changes promptly.
- Work with drivers, warehouse staff, and customers to address delays or operational issues.
- Maintain accurate trip logs, fuel records, and delivery paperwork.
- Prepare basic reports for management.
- Help with route planning and other logistics-related tasks when required.
- Follow safety, compliance, and operational procedures at all times.
Skills and Experience Needed
The ideal candidate should be well organized, able to manage several deliveries at once, and comfortable working in a busy environment. Good communication and relationship-building skills are important for coordinating with different teams and stakeholders. Basic computer skills are needed, including spreadsheets and email, and any exposure to dispatch or transport systems would be helpful. A careful eye for detail is essential for record-keeping and documentation. The role also calls for a practical problem-solving approach when dealing with route changes, delays, or other disruptions.
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of road networks in Ethiopia is useful, and familiarity with routes toward Djibouti and Somaliland is an advantage.
- Applicants should be able to work on-site in Addis Ababa and may need to support evening or weekend shifts depending on operational needs.
- Secondary school completion is required; further education or training in logistics, transport management, or a related area is a plus.
- Experience in dispatching, logistics, or transportation is helpful, including entry-level or internship exposure, but it is not mandatory.
