Key Responsibilities

This position covers safety, health, environmental, compliance, incident handling, and site coordination responsibilities across metro construction work fronts.

Safety Management

  • Put SHE plans, method statements, and risk assessments such as HIRA and JSA into practice and track them for elevated metro activities including piling, pier construction, launching girder work, segment erection, U/I girders, station works, and precast operations.
  • Oversee safe work-at-height practices, including the proper use of scaffolding, formwork, access platforms, lifelines, and fall-arrest systems.
  • Watch over lifting activities, crane operations, movement of heavy equipment, and traffic control along the right of way.
  • Carry out daily safety walkthroughs, identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions, and follow up until corrective actions are closed.
  • Arrange toolbox meetings, safety induction sessions, and training for workforce members and subcontractor personnel.

Health & Occupational Safety

  • Check that occupational health requirements are met, including use of PPE, welfare amenities, safe drinking water, sanitation, and rest facilities.
  • Track heat-stress prevention, dust suppression, noise control, and ergonomic conditions at the worksite.
  • Coordinate periodic medical examinations for workers and equipment operators.

Environment Management

  • Execute the Environmental Management Plan, covering dust control, waste segregation, muck disposal, and spill response measures.
  • Ensure site activities comply with environmental limits related to noise, air, water, and waste management.
  • Keep documentation for muck disposal, debris removal, and the handling of hazardous waste.

Statutory & Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with the Factories Act, BOCW Act, relevant IS Codes, NBC, metro rail safety requirements, and applicable local labour laws.
  • Assist during audits by the client, PMC, statutory bodies, and internal HSE teams.
  • Update and maintain statutory registers, permits, and safety-related records.

Incident Management

  • Support investigations for incidents and near misses, including root cause analysis and execution of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Track accident data, safety indicators, and monthly SHE reports.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Work closely with construction, planning, QA/QC, and subcontractor teams to build safety into day-to-day execution.
