Job description
Role Summary
The Inward Store Officer will manage end-to-end store activities, from receiving incoming materials to issuing stock, dispatching goods, maintaining system records, and supporting inventory control in a manufacturing environment.
Material Receipt and Inspection
- Accept incoming materials against the purchase order and delivery challan.
- Work with the quality/inspection function to get materials checked.
- Raise the goods receipt note accurately in the ERP or other system.
- Spot and escalate any shortage, damage, or mismatch in received materials.
Storage and Preservation
- Organize materials with correct storage, labeling, bin placement, and identification.
- Apply FIFO or FEFO methods wherever relevant.
- Protect material condition through proper handling, safety, and preservation practices.
- Keep the store compliant with 5S standards and safety requirements.
Material Issue and Dispatch
- Release materials to production only against approved requisitions.
- Verify the right item, quantity, and supporting documents before issuing stock.
- Support dispatch of finished goods and inter-plant transfers.
- Keep issue and dispatch logs accurate and up to date.
ERP and System Operations
- Record every store transaction in ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or similar systems.
- Prepare inventory reports covering stock position, aging, and consumption patterns.
- Make sure system entries are timely and data remains accurate.
Coordination and Communication
- Liaise with purchase, production, quality, planning, and logistics teams.
- Help production planning by ensuring materials are available when needed.
- Flag shortages or delays early so they can be managed quickly.
Compliance and Audit Support
- Assist with internal and external inventory and store audits.
- Follow company policies, SOPs, and legal requirements in day-to-day work.
- Maintain traceable records and proper documentation.
Improvement Initiatives
- Take part in initiatives aimed at reducing cost, optimizing inventory, and improving processes.
- Contribute to Lean, Kaizen, and PPS activities in store operations.
- Recommend ways to use space better and improve operational efficiency.
Team and Vendor Coordination
- Guide store assistants or helpers when required.
- Coordinate with transporters and vendors for movement of materials.
