Job description
Overview
This role is part of the CIO Office team in Singapore and supports the execution of the Chief Investment Officer’s target operating model. The position focuses on public and private market coverage, strategic asset allocation, portfolio optimisation, investment strategy design, monitoring and analytics, and governance/reporting activities that support both business objectives and regulatory obligations.
The organisation is guided by a philosophy of continuous improvement and seeks people who want to contribute to better outcomes for customers, colleagues, and the community. The company values learning, growth, and a purpose-driven approach to work.
What you'll do
- Support company-wide strategic asset allocation efforts and portfolio optimisation initiatives to improve investment outcomes and strengthen asset and liability management.
- Share responsibility for coverage across either public markets or private markets, including the annual strategic planning process for assets and the investment division.
- Engage regularly with fund managers, including internal investment management and external managers, to help ensure investment objectives are met and risk-adjusted returns are maximised.
- Establish portfolio mandates and benchmark standards, then monitor execution to ensure compliance with MAS requirements, internal limits, and portfolio guidelines.
- Carry out portfolio analytics to measure performance, compare results against benchmarks, and support investment analysis and solution design.
- Use internal analytics and monitoring reports from an asset-owner perspective to support strategic discussions that can improve insurance product competitiveness and assist new product development.
- Help manage investment governance and control processes, including exposure monitoring, investment risk limits, mandate oversight, and internal control assessments.
- Support monthly investment sign-offs for month-end close and recurring regulatory submissions to external stakeholders and regulators.
- Review governance changes and regulatory notices, assess their impact, and help ensure a smooth transition to new requirements.
- Contribute to maintaining strong internal governance and a robust control environment as part of the first line of defence, working with the second and third lines of defence to reinforce risk and compliance culture.
Requirements
- A strong bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or economics is required; post-graduate study or professional credentials such as CFA are preferred.
- At least 8 years of proven experience as an investment officer with a focus on multi-asset investing in a life insurance company, bank, or asset management firm.
- Hands-on exposure to equity, fixed income securities, and derivatives within a substantial fund or fund-of-funds environment.
- Strong capability in strategic planning with an enterprise-wide mindset.
- Ability to perform both quantitative and qualitative analysis related to portfolio construction, investment strategy, manager selection, and performance attribution.
- An adaptive, agile approach that works well with different personalities and stakeholder styles.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills, initiative, forward thinking, resilience under pressure, urgency, and close attention to detail.
- Well-developed influencing and negotiation abilities.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
