Job description

Role Overview

A leading global independent investment bank is hiring two professionals, one at Senior Analyst level and one at Associate level, for its Power & Utilities M&A team in New York. The practice works with corporate clients, financial sponsors, infrastructure investors, utilities, independent power producers, and energy transition platforms on a wide range of strategic and transactional assignments.

The mandate covers sell-side and buy-side M&A, capital raising, strategic advisory, carve-outs, platform investments, and structured transactions across the power, utilities, and wider energy infrastructure space. This is a chance to join a high-performing advisory team with strong access to senior bankers, substantial deal exposure, and involvement in complex, market-leading transactions.

What You Will Do

  • Contribute to live M&A engagements, including sell-side, buy-side, carve-out, and strategic advisory processes.
  • Carry out valuation work such as DCF, trading comparables, precedent transactions, LBO-style analysis, and sum-of-the-parts where applicable.
  • Develop and update detailed financial models, operating models, and transaction analysis materials.
  • Prepare client-ready documents including pitch books, management presentations, information memoranda, buyer and investor lists, process letters, and board presentations.
  • Research sectors, companies, and transactions across power generation, regulated utilities, renewables, storage, grid infrastructure, IPPs, and broader energy transition themes.
  • Help coordinate diligence workstreams and support discussions with clients, counterparties, advisers, and investors.
  • Assist senior bankers with originating and executing new business opportunities.
  • For Associate-level hires, own more of the workstream delivery, supervise Analysts, review financial outputs, and help manage day-to-day execution.

Candidate Background

Applicants should have experience in investment banking, corporate finance, M&A advisory, or another transaction-heavy environment. Exposure to Power & Utilities, Energy, Infrastructure, or Renewables is highly desirable.

Additional Profile Details

  • Experience at Senior Analyst or Associate level from an investment bank, M&A advisory firm, infrastructure advisory team, or similar sector-focused platform.
  • Strong technical ability in valuation, financial modelling, accounting, and transaction analysis.
  • Track record of supporting or executing M&A transactions, ideally in Power, Utilities, Infrastructure, Energy Transition, or Renewables.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to produce polished client-facing materials.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to perform in a fast-moving deal environment.
  • Commercial thinking, initiative, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Comfort working with senior stakeholders while handling internal execution responsibilities.
  • For Associate candidates, prior people management and workstream coordination experience is a strong plus.

Relevant Sector Exposure

  • Power generation
  • Regulated utilities
  • Renewable energy
  • Independent power producers (IPPs)
  • Battery storage
  • Transmission and distribution
  • Grid infrastructure
  • Energy transition platforms
  • Distributed generation
  • Infrastructure and real assets
  • Energy services
  • Water and wastewater utilities
  • Broader Power & Utilities M&A

Why This Role

This opportunity is well suited to candidates who want to build a long-term career in Power & Utilities M&A at a top-tier independent advisory platform. Successful hires will gain exposure to high-quality transactions, work closely with experienced senior bankers, and advise a sophisticated client base spanning corporate, sponsor, and infrastructure investor channels.

The team is hiring two people to support continued activity and growth, with openings for both a technically strong Senior Analyst and a more seasoned Associate who can take on additional execution responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent academic qualification.
  • Strong academic performance.
  • Previous experience in investment banking, M&A, corporate finance, or transaction advisory.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint capability, along with strong financial modelling skills.
  • Solid grasp of valuation techniques and core corporate finance concepts.
  • Exposure to Power & Utilities, Infrastructure, Energy, or Renewables preferred.
  • Must be based in New York or open to relocating there.

Application Process

Interested candidates are expected to submit a CV for review. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an introductory conversation to discuss their background, transaction experience, sector exposure, and overall fit with the team.
