Job description

About the Role

A prominent long-term investment platform in New York is looking for an Investment Associate to join its expanding team. The firm specializes in acquiring and developing software and technology-enabled companies with a patient ownership strategy focused on operational enhancements, strategic growth, and sustainable value creation. Unlike conventional private equity firms, this organization invests with a long-term perspective funded by substantial permanent capital, enabling investment professionals to prioritize company development over predetermined exit schedules.

This role offers a chance to work in a small, collaborative team with close interaction with senior leaders and meaningful engagement throughout the entire investment process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess acquisition opportunities in the software and technology sectors.
  • Create comprehensive financial models, valuations, forecasts, and analyses of investment returns.
  • Engage in all phases of deal execution from initial due diligence through closing.
  • Develop investment memoranda, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Conduct market research, industry and competitive analyses.
  • Liaise with management, lenders, consultants, and external advisors.
  • Perform financial, operational, and commercial due diligence on potential investments.
  • Analyze recurring revenue models, customer retention, growth levers, profitability, and operational performance.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for value enhancement in transactions.
  • Formulate investment theses and support acquisition proposals.
  • Evaluate company performance using relevant software and SaaS metrics.
  • Support initiatives within portfolio companies post-acquisition.
  • Assist in strategic planning, operational improvements, and growth-related projects.
  • Track portfolio company performance relative to investment objectives.
  • Assess potential add-on acquisitions and strategic expansion prospects.
  • Collaborate with management teams to foster long-term growth and value creation.

Qualifications

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in Investment Banking, Private Equity, Growth Equity, Corporate Development, or a related investment role.
  • Demonstrated strong experience in M&A transactions.
  • Advanced capabilities in financial modeling and valuation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication proficiencies.
  • Strong dedication and ability to excel in an entrepreneurial setting.
  • Bachelor's degree with an excellent academic record.
  • Preferred experience includes assessment of software, SaaS, or technology companies, prior buy-side investing background, familiarity with control-oriented deals, understanding of recurring revenue models and software performance metrics, and an interest in long-term investing and business building.

What Sets This Position Apart

  • Investment structure based on permanent capital.
  • Long-term ownership philosophy rather than typical investment holding durations.
  • Extensive engagement with software and technology sector investments.
  • Direct collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Working within a lean team offering significant responsibility and visibility.
  • Involvement across investment, M&A execution, and portfolio value enhancement.
  • Opportunity to contribute to building enduring companies instead of preparing them for exits.
