Job description
Role overview
The Studentischer Börsenverein Magdeburg e.V. (SBM) is seeking a driven student to lead its entry in portfolio challenges run together with BVH. The position centers on managing a competition portfolio and contributing to SBM’s broader research work.
What you will do
- Own the competition portfolio, including research, position sizing, and ongoing rebalancing choices.
- Track earnings schedules, sector-specific triggers, and macroeconomic developments that could affect performance.
- Summarize results and explain the logic behind trading decisions to the wider analyst group.
- Support SBM with research and analysis for future events and other initiatives beyond the competition.
Candidate profile
- You should currently be enrolled as a student; preference is given to students at OvGU Magdeburg, though applicants from other universities are also welcome.
- Strong interest in equities, capital markets, and portfolio construction is important.
- You need to be comfortable making decisions independently and justifying them with evidence.
- You should be dependable and able to contribute a few hours each week during the competition period.
- Business-level English is required, including familiarity with financial terminology; German fluency is an advantage.
- Programming knowledge, especially Python, is expected to support quantitative analysis.
What you gain
- Practical portfolio management exposure that many students only encounter later in their careers.
- First-hand insight into how a real competition portfolio is constructed, defended, and adapted under pressure.
- A strong CV project, such as managing a competition portfolio and documenting its return.
- Guidance and visibility within the SBM Analyst Team.
