Job description
Overview
The British Business Bank is hiring an Investment Analyst to join its Direct Equity team, with a strong focus on Life Sciences opportunities. The position is permanent and full time, based across Sheffield, London, or a hybrid arrangement, with an expectation of attending the office two days each week.
Role summary
In this position, you will support the assessment and diligence of new direct equity investments, especially those in the Life Sciences sector. Your work will involve scientific, commercial, financial, and investment analysis, including financial modelling and detailed review of company performance and future forecasts. You will help coordinate outside advisers, partner with Legal, Risk, and Finance colleagues, support transaction execution, and contribute to portfolio tracking, reporting, and broader Direct Equity team activity.
What the role requires
The role calls for strong knowledge of venture capital investment in Life Sciences, along with a sound commercial grasp of fast-growing businesses. You should have advanced analytical ability, particularly in financial analysis and modelling, as well as excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. The bank is looking for someone who is confident building relationships both internally and externally, works well in a collaborative and proactive manner, and is comfortable operating in a small, agile team. A degree is essential, and previous exposure to investment transactions or experience in venture-backed, start-up, or high-growth environments would be an advantage.
Working arrangement and pay
This is a full-time permanent role offering 37.5 hours per week, with flexible days and/or hours from Monday to Friday. The salary starts at £50,000 in Sheffield and £60,000 in London, depending on experience. The office location is Sheffield / London / Hybrid Working, with an expectation of two office days per week.
Benefits
- 30 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell up to 5 additional days
- Employer pension contribution of 15%
- Flexible working arrangements
- Cycle-to-work scheme, healthcare cash plan, group income protection, and life assurance
- Paid volunteer days, plus maternity, paternity, adoption, and shared parental leave
- A broad benefits package covering retail and dining discounts, health and wellbeing, travel, and technology savings
