Job description

Role Overview

This is an interim leadership assignment in the Munich area for an experienced executive to steer the German subsidiary of an international engineering services group. The role begins immediately and is initially planned for 6 to 12 months, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position.

The organization serves major industrial clients in highly regulated environments such as defence, aerospace, rail, space, and other advanced sectors. As the subsidiary enters a new development phase, the selected leader will be expected to accelerate commercial expansion while maintaining strong operational control.

What the Role Covers

Reporting to the International Director, you will oversee the German business end to end, including commercial growth, daily operations, team leadership, and organizational transformation. The position requires someone who can balance strategic direction with direct, hands-on execution and who is comfortable both winning business and running a local entity.

Core Accountabilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the German subsidiary, covering both operational and commercial management.
  • Create and implement the commercial plan for the German market.
  • Pursue new business across defence, aerospace, space, rail, and other technology-driven industrial markets.
  • Grow current client accounts and maintain a healthy sales funnel.
  • Own the subsidiary's profit and loss performance and safeguard financial results.
  • Guide, mentor, and develop a varied team of engineers and technical experts.
  • Assess the existing organization and carry out changes needed to support future expansion.
  • Coordinate with the international leadership team to ensure local execution is aligned with group strategy.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial leader with a strong record of expanding engineering or technical services businesses in Germany. You should be capable of working independently within an international setup and comfortable taking full accountability for a local operation.

  • Experience leading a business unit, subsidiary, or SME with full P&L ownership.
  • Demonstrated business development success in Germany's defence, aerospace, or similar high-tech industries.
  • A solid network of contacts among major industrial companies and decision-makers.
  • Background in managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Working knowledge of engineering support services such as Integrated Logistics Support (ILS/LSA), technical documentation, safety engineering, maintenance engineering, or comparable technical service lines.
  • Ability to function autonomously within an international organization.
  • Native or fluent German plus professional English; French is an added advantage.

Why This Assignment Stands Out

This is a high-responsibility leadership opportunity for a commercially driven executive who wants to create visible change and measurable business impact.

  • Lead the turnaround and repositioning of an established German subsidiary.
  • Design and execute a new growth strategy with substantial autonomy.
  • Combine general management duties with direct business development activity.
  • Work closely with international leadership and help shape the business's future direction.
  • Build long-term value in a strategic market, with the potential for a permanent leadership role.
