Instrumentation Designer

Role overview

The Instrumentation Designer will handle assigned technical design activities under the guidance of the Instrumentation Discipline Lead and the Instrumentation Engineer. The role focuses on producing design deliverables such as checks, layout definitions, installation drawings, and material definitions for instrumentation installation elements.

This position also requires close coordination with other project specialists and designers, along with active contribution to 3D instrumentation modelling work.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out instrumentation design assignments related to checking, layout definition, installation drawings, and material definition for installation components.
• Liaise and coordinate with other project team specialists and designers to keep design activities aligned.
• Develop and update 3D instrumentation models as part of the project workflow.
• Work in compliance with QA/QC standards and HSE requirements while executing assigned tasks.
• Prepare instrumentation bulk material quantities, including BOQs and MTOs, for cost and erection work estimates.
• Assist the Discipline Lead in defining man-hours and cost estimates.
• Review client technical documents and project-specific requirements.
• Monitor subcontracted engineering work and check the related engineering documents.
• Apply the approved engineering design basis and guidelines throughout the work.
• Prepare technical documents for instrumentation bulk material requisitions and complete technical evaluations as per internal procedures.
• Support the project team with technical input and design clarification.
• Optimize instrumentation bulk material design to reduce cost and complexity while meeting contractual and safety obligations.
• Draft technical specifications for instrumentation bulk materials.
• Produce instrumentation installation drawings and related design outputs.
• Perform 3D modelling activities and contribute to 3D model reviews.
• Support the construction team with technical and engineering assistance.
• Carry out site engineering activities during construction, commissioning, and startup phases.

Additional information

The role includes responsibility for technology know-how development and commercial support, feasibility-related inputs, and support during bidding or commercial proposal preparation. The designer is expected to contribute wherever required across project execution, construction, and startup stages.
