Job description

Role overview

This position supports the infection prevention and control function for the 86th Medical Group at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The role is focused on strengthening patient safety, reducing infection risks, and maintaining compliance with applicable military, healthcare, and regulatory standards.

Work schedule

The assignment runs Monday through Friday, with working hours between 0600 and 1900. The schedule is flexible within a 40-hour workweek.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the 86th Medical Group infection prevention and control program.
  • Carry out the annual infection control risk assessment and prepare the infection prevention and control program plan as well as the yearly summary.
  • Track, review, and analyze surveillance data related to healthcare-associated infections, multidrug-resistant organisms, and community-acquired infections.
  • Support the medical treatment facility’s readiness for accreditation and compliance reviews, including Joint Commission, AFI 44-108, CDC, and OSHA requirements.
  • Deliver onboarding, staff orientation, and recurring infection prevention education in line with OSHA and DHA expectations.
  • Advise leaders, committees, and cross-functional teams on infection prevention matters.
  • Take part in outbreak investigations, epidemiological analysis, and antimicrobial stewardship efforts.
  • Review construction plans, renovation activities, and service agreements for infection prevention risks and controls.
  • Maintain records, reports, and compliance files in accordance with records management requirements.
  • Act as a technical expert during emergency preparedness activities, disaster drills, and response to biohazard or epidemic events.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Microbiology is required.
  • At least 3 years of experience in infection prevention or infection control is needed, including 2 years within the past 4 years.
  • The EPIC course at Fort Sam Houston must be completed within 6 months of the start date.
  • Annual completion of 10 CEUs in infection prevention-related topics is required, along with an active BLS certification.
  • Applicants should have working knowledge of recognized infection prevention guidance from CDC, APIC, AAMI, AORN, and similar bodies.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
