Job description
About the organization
Breakthru is part of the Royal Rehab Group, a long-established not-for-profit with more than 125 years of experience in disability and rehabilitation services across Australia. In this role, you’ll spend your time in the community rather than behind a desk, supporting people where it makes the biggest difference.
About the role
Breakthru has been chosen by the Department of Social Services to deliver the Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) program in selected areas of New South Wales and Queensland. The program is designed to help more people move into meaningful work and build careers that last.
As a Career Coach, you’ll work with people living with disability, injury, or health conditions as they prepare for employment. You’ll be part of a collaborative team helping participants grow confidence, strengthen skills, and work toward their goals. Your support will cover the full journey from initial conversations through to job applications and interview preparation.
Key responsibilities
- Support clients as they plan their next career move and work toward suitable employment opportunities.
- Develop trusted relationships so you can understand each person’s goals, strengths, and support requirements.
- Deliver individualized coaching and follow-up to keep participants engaged and progressing.
- Link clients to training, skill-building activities, practical experience, and group sessions.
- Work with employers and community organisations to create pathways into jobs and training.
- Work toward internal and external performance targets and service standards.
- Represent and apply Breakthru’s values of inclusion, empowerment, and person-centred support.
About you
You are someone who brings empathy, drive, and a genuine interest in helping others succeed. Whether your background is in employment services or you have a strong desire to work in that space, you’re confident supporting people, building trust, and helping them move into sustainable work.
You enjoy learning about each participant’s unique strengths and barriers, then using that insight to coach them and build their confidence. You also feel comfortable working with employers, understanding their needs, and matching them with well-prepared candidates. You are organised, professional, proactive, and careful with detail, and you approach your work with integrity and a strong commitment to inclusive support.
Essential criteria
- A qualification in Employment or Human Services, such as Mental Health, Psychology, or Social Work, is desirable.
- Experience in employment services and in supporting people with disability, injury, or health conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to meet KPIs and develop employment and skills plans focused on client outcomes.
- Confidence in promoting candidates to employers and running group-based programs.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Understanding of disability legislation, support approaches, and labour market trends.
- A current driver’s licence is essential, along with access to your own vehicle.
Rewards and benefits
- Salary packaging of up to $15,900 from pre-tax income.
- Ability to package up to $2,650 for meals and accommodation-related expenses.
- Five extra wellbeing leave days.
- Access to Maxxia Rewards with a broad range of discounts.
- Discounted entry to gyms and aquatic centres through Fitness Passport.
- Exclusive health insurance discounts with HCF.
- Portable long service leave for eligible employees.
- Real opportunities for career progression and professional growth.
- Free confidential counselling and wellbeing support through the EAP.
Inclusion and accessibility
Breakthru is committed to building a workplace that reflects the diversity of the community it serves. Applications are encouraged from people with disability, First Nations peoples, LGBTIQA+ people, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The organisation is also committed to accessible recruitment and workplace adjustments. If you need support to participate fairly in the hiring process, you can request adjustments during recruitment or interview stages.

Applicants are expected to address the essential criteria in their cover letter. Only candidates who do this will be considered. The successful applicant will also need to complete pre-employment checks, which may include a criminal record check, working with children check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, employment history verification, driver’s licence verification, and referee checks.
