Ice Plant Mechanic

Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled Ice Plant Mechanic to join our Plant Maintenance team in Doha, Qatar. The chosen candidate will oversee the inspection, operation, preventive upkeep, and repair tasks concerning industrial ice plants and chiller refrigeration systems. The goal is to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted production with minimal downtime.

Primary Responsibilities

• Conduct both preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial ice plants, chillers, and refrigeration units.
• Inspect and service mechanical parts such as gearboxes, shafts, cutters, racks, screws, and conveyor systems.
• Overhaul and maintain reciprocating and screw compressors, including changing oil, charging and recovering refrigerants, replacing filters, and internal mechanical checks.
• Clean and upkeep water-cooled condensers and cooling towers, replacing drip eliminators as needed.
• Detect and fix leaks in refrigeration circuits including joints, valves, pipes, fittings, and seals.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electronic problems to limit equipment downtime.
• Analyze PLC alarms, fault codes, and operating parameters to identify system faults.
• Use electrical testing devices to inspect motors, starters, contactors, solenoids, and control circuits.
• Replace faulty components like expansion valves, pressure regulators, solenoid valves, motors, bearings, seals, and pumps.
• Carry out safe shutdowns, startups, commissioning, and restarts of ice plant and chiller systems.
• Keep accurate maintenance records, equipment histories, and service documentation.
• Adhere to safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and environmental regulations.
• Work closely with the Maintenance Planner or Team Leader to schedule maintenance with minimal production impact.
• Respond swiftly to emergency breakdowns to quickly restore operations.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma, ITI, or Technical Certificate in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, HVAC, Mechanical Engineering, or related areas.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience maintaining industrial refrigeration or ice plant systems.
• Expertise with KTI ice plants is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with PLC-controlled refrigeration equipment and ability to interpret electrical and mechanical diagrams.
• Comprehensive knowledge of refrigerant handling, including charging, recovery, and leak detection methods.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration troubleshooting capabilities.
• Proficient communication skills in English.
