About the Role
As the Human Resources Director at Thomas Cavanagh Construction Limited, you will play a pivotal leadership role in steering the company's talent attraction, development, and retention strategies throughout a regional workforce. Reporting directly to the VP of HR/Payroll, you will be instrumental in crafting the people strategy that supports this 73-year-old construction firm's continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with the executive leadership team to ensure alignment between people strategies and overall business goals, including workforce planning and organizational design as well as leadership development initiatives.
- Lead and mentor a diverse HR team responsible for areas such as talent acquisition, total rewards, learning and development, and employee operations.
- Analyze employee engagement surveys, exit interview data, and retention metrics to make data-driven improvements enhancing the employee experience.
- Develop and manage competitive and equitable compensation and benefits programs consistent with the evolving growth phase of The Thomas Cavanagh Group of Companies.
- Oversee the HR aspects of mergers and acquisitions integration, from cultural evaluations during due diligence to organizational restructuring and onboarding of newly acquired teams.

Candidate Profile
- A minimum of 10 years of advancing HR leadership experience, including at least 5 years serving in a director capacity, preferably within the construction industry.
- Proven ability to develop and implement people strategies across distributed organizations spanning multiple locations.
- Expertise in organizational development, talent management practices, and comprehensive total rewards programs.
- Practical knowledge of Ontario’s employment law, with discernment to involve legal counsel appropriately.
- Strong competency in leveraging data and analytics around workforce planning, engagement, and retention to inform decision-making.
- Executive presence with demonstrated influence at senior leadership levels.
- Experience managing change effectively in periods characterized by rapid growth, restructuring, or M&A integration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience guiding HR functions through mergers, acquisitions, or significant corporate transformations.
- Familiarity with both unionized and non-union work environments.
- Insight into the construction labor market dynamics.
- Background working within fast-paced entrepreneurial or growth-focused companies.
