In this role, you will act as a strategic advisor to business leaders, helping shape people strategy so it aligns with company goals and supports stronger business performance, employee engagement, culture, and compliance. This position goes beyond day-to-day HR support and has a strong focus on employee and labor relations, organizational design, succession planning, workforce analytics, and change leadership in a complex environment that includes both union and non-union groups across multiple locations.

What You Will Do

  • Guide leaders on organizational direction, workforce planning, leadership effectiveness, and culture improvement efforts.
  • Build strong, trusted partnerships with business stakeholders and position HR as a proactive function that adds strategic value.
  • Handle complex employee and labor relations situations, including sensitive investigations, grievance handling, and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Convert business priorities into talent plans that support succession, employee development, and capability growth.
  • Support organizational effectiveness efforts such as restructures, role definition, skill development, and change management.
  • Improve performance management practices and talent differentiation approaches to strengthen accountability and outcomes.
  • Analyze workforce data such as retention, engagement, bench strength, and productivity to inform recommendations.
  • Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, company policies, and labor agreements while reducing business risk.
  • Lead and support employee engagement and culture initiatives with a focus on measurable improvement in engagement and retention.
  • Work closely with Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Talent Development, and HR Operations to roll out enterprise HR programs successfully.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a similar field is preferred.
  • Advanced HR certification such as SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or an equivalent credential is strongly preferred.
  • 8 to 12 years of progressive HR experience in roles with increasing strategic responsibility.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an HR Business Partner supporting leaders in a complex, multi-site, union and non-union environment.
  • Experience working at a manager or director-equivalent level within a large matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated success in workforce planning, succession management, and change leadership.
  • Solid background in employee and labor relations, including investigations, grievance resolution, and contract interpretation.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and contribute to measurable business results.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Labor relations experience is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Hawai‘i and U.S. employment and labor laws.
  • Ability to understand and apply complex documents such as collective bargaining agreements and regulatory guidance.
  • Professional presence and the confidence to influence without direct authority.
  • Strong business understanding, including financial, operational, and strategic considerations.
  • Advanced investigation, risk evaluation, and conflict resolution capabilities.
  • Comfort with data analysis and using workforce metrics to guide decisions.
  • Ability to coach leaders to improve leadership effectiveness and team performance.
  • Change management expertise with a track record of supporting organizational transitions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms.
