Overview
The Housekeeping Supervisor will manage daily operations of the housekeeping division, ensuring guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas meet the rigorous cleanliness and maintenance standards expected at a luxury five-star hotel. This role requires leading and mentoring a team, carrying out inspections, and consistently achieving exceptional guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, and safety compliance.
Primary Duties
- Oversee daily tasks of housekeeping staff including room attendants and cleaners, and assign duties accordingly.
- Provide training and guidance to new team members on cleaning protocols, standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and delivering excellent guest service.
- Evaluate team performance regularly, offering constructive feedback and resolving service-related issues.
- Conduct thorough inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and support spaces to ensure adherence to cleanliness and maintenance standards.
- Verify completion and quality of room cleaning, ensuring proper presentation of linens, toiletries, and overall hygiene.
- Address deficiencies promptly and implement corrective measures to maintain standards.
- Monitor inventory levels for linen, cleaning supplies, and guest amenities, coordinating procurement within budget constraints.
- Manage safe storage and handling of cleaning chemicals in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Respond efficiently to guest requests and concerns related to housekeeping services, aiming for swift and professional resolution.
- Handle guest complaints tactfully, ensuring satisfaction and upholding brand reputation.
- Enforce strict adherence to hotel policies, safety protocols, and chemical handling procedures within the department.
- Stay updated on health, safety, and fire regulations and ensure housekeeping operations comply.
- Report maintenance needs in guest rooms and public areas to the maintenance team promptly.
- Prepare daily cleaning schedules and allocate room assignments for the housekeeping team.
- Maintain detailed records on completed tasks, inventory usage, and guest feedback or issues.
- Assist with performance reporting and conducting evaluations for housekeeping personnel.
- Support monthly inventory checks to ensure adequate stock of essential supplies.
- Participate in daily meetings and implement instructions from Executive Housekeeper or Assistant Executive Housekeeper.
General Responsibilities
- Comply fully with all hotel policies including those regarding fire safety, hygiene, health, and general safety as outlined in the Team Member’s Handbook.
- Attend work punctually, maintaining proper uniform and appearance according to grooming standards.
- Maintain professional personal hygiene and appearance at all times.
- Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with all colleagues and departments.
- Engage actively in staff meetings, training sessions, and hotel initiatives.
- Support departmental training efforts and adapt to any changes within the housekeeping function as directed.
- Exhibit a positive, professional demeanor, demonstrating self-control and motivation consistently.
- Deliver courteous and professional service to all guests and team members.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with conducting quarterly, bi-annual, and annual inventories of equipment and operating supplies.
- Perform other reasonable tasks delegated by Executive or Assistant Executive Housekeeper.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Between 3 and 5 years’ experience in housekeeping within a luxury or five-star hotel, including 1 to 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; higher education in Hotel Management, Hospitality, or a related discipline is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of luxury housekeeping standards, cleaning techniques, sanitation procedures, and guest service excellence.
- Strong leadership abilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a diverse team.
- Exceptional organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and capability to juggle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
- Proficiency in English required; additional languages are advantageous. Effective written and verbal communication skills essential.
- Familiarity with hotel property management systems (PMS) and Microsoft Office suite is expected.
- Physical capability to stand, walk, and supervise for prolonged periods, including flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
- Commitment to uphold professionalism, discretion, and protect the luxury brand image of the hotel.
