Role Overview

As a Housekeeper reporting to the Team Lead or Supervisor, you will maintain cleanliness and sanitation in non-production areas such as offices, washrooms, lunchrooms, gyms, and communal spaces. The position involves performing routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, waste disposal, and restocking of essential supplies. Additionally, the Housekeeper is cross-trained in fundamental sanitation protocols and supports both the Sanitation team and office staff during busy times, ensuring a clean, safe, and professional facility environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize floors in offices, hallways, gyms, lunchrooms, and shared spaces.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures.
  • Empty garbage bins, replace liners, and dispose of waste following established procedures.
  • Replenish supplies such as paper towels, soap, and toilet paper.
  • Dust furniture, shelves, and surfaces within office areas.
  • Operate dishwashing equipment to maintain clean dishes and utensils.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of coffee machines.
  • Keep staff kitchens orderly and tidy.
  • Assist Sanitation Technicians and Associates with basic cleaning in production zones as needed.
  • Clean break rooms, locker rooms, and other shared facilities.
  • Respond to urgent spill clean-ups and cleaning requests in non-production areas.
  • Participate in deep cleaning projects and special assignments.
  • Provide light administrative or logistical support such as mail distribution and supply management.
  • Assist with setting up meetings or events within common areas.
  • Adhere to GMP, WHMIS, and safety protocols when handling cleaning chemicals.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and promptly report any safety hazards.
  • Attend safety and sanitation training sessions.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support business activities from seed to sale, demonstrating teamwork and commitment.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or an equivalent qualification.
  • WHMIS certification is mandatory or willingness to obtain it.
  • Previous housekeeping, janitorial, or custodial experience is advantageous.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial workplace is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques and safety procedures.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both verbal and written English instructions.
  • Familiarity with cleaning supplies and methods.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Great attention to detail and pride in workmanship.

Physical Requirements

  • Capability to regularly lift, push, pull, and carry weights ranging from 40 to 50 lbs throughout the shift.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb for long periods.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs when handling chemicals, tools, or equipment.
  • Frequent use of cleaning tools such as mops, vacuums, and carts.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals requiring adherence to WHMIS standards and PPE usage.
  • Ability to work in environments with dust and no allergies to dust.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts including occasional weekends and holidays aligned to production schedules.
