Job description

Role overview

The hospital is seeking a skilled Porter to deliver a high standard of support to patients, staff, and consultants across all departments. This full-time permanent position is based at a private hospital in East London and involves reliable portering, courier, distribution, and security support as part of a multi-skilled team.

About the hospital

The site, formerly known as Spire Roding, is located in Redbridge on the edge of East London and Essex. It provides a wide range of private healthcare services in a calm, clean, and comfortable setting, including outpatient clinics, physiotherapy, surgery, and diagnostic testing.

The hospital has 24 inpatient beds and 16 day-case rooms known as pods. Its facilities include four operating theatres, an endoscopy suite, two extended recovery units, pharmacy services, x-ray, and outpatient and diagnostic services.

Key duties

  • Safely move, escort, and transport patients throughout the hospital while maintaining a caring, respectful, and professional approach.
  • Support the safety and wellbeing of patients, staff, and consultants.
  • Handle the collection and delivery of clean and soiled linen.
  • Oversee the safe handling of domestic and clinical waste in line with corporate and hospital waste policy WM01.
  • Contribute to site security and the surrounding grounds, and escalate security concerns to senior management.
  • Log maintenance concerns with the Maintenance team through Pirana.
  • Carry out driving tasks when needed.

Candidate profile

No formal qualifications are needed, but applicants must communicate clearly with colleagues and patients and maintain a professional appearance suitable for a healthcare setting.

The role requires someone with experience in frontline customer service, ideally in a similar environment, along with strong communication and organisational ability. The right person should deliver excellent customer care, work independently, and bring a caring, considerate approach to their work. A full clean driving licence is essential, and the postholder must be willing to work evenings, nights, and weekends.

Benefits

  • 35 days of annual leave, including bank holidays
  • Private medical cover and free Bupa wellness screening
  • Employer and employee pension contributions
  • Life assurance cover
  • Discounts and cashback through a retailer scheme with more than 1,000 partners
  • Career development support and wellbeing resources

Working pattern and contract

This is a full-time permanent role with a working schedule of 37.5 hours per week.

Values

  • Commitment to clinical excellence
  • Acting with integrity and doing the right thing
  • Putting care at the centre of everything
  • Keeping processes straightforward
  • Delivering commitments consistently
  • Achieving success and celebrating as a team
