Role overview

Sigmatech is hiring a Help Desk Systems Administrator to support the National Security Space Institute (NSSI) by keeping IT services dependable, secure, and responsive. This position is the main contact for end-user technical help and also provides systems administration support across desktops, servers, network equipment, audiovisual systems, and enterprise software. The role combines hands-on troubleshooting, user support, systems maintenance, and assistance with IT initiatives that support NSSI’s education and training mission.

Technical support and customer service

  • Provide Tier I and Tier II assistance for hardware, applications, operating systems, network access, printers, mobile devices, and collaboration platforms.
  • Investigate and fix issues reported through tickets, calls, email, or walk-up requests.
  • Route complicated problems to senior technical staff or vendors when needed.
  • Deliver prompt, professional support and keep user satisfaction high.

Systems administration

  • Support and maintain Windows workstations, Windows servers, Active Directory, Group Policy, file shares, and business applications.
  • Set up, update, disable, and manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Maintain configuration standards, security settings, and system baselines.
  • Track system health, uptime, and overall performance.

Network and infrastructure support

  • Assist with network administration tasks involving switches, wireless access points, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP services.
  • Resolve connectivity problems for local and remote users.
  • Support conference room technology, classroom AV equipment, and related systems as required.

Security and compliance

  • Apply cybersecurity practices aligned with policy and regulatory expectations.
  • Install security patches, operating system updates, and firmware upgrades.
  • Help with vulnerability fixes, system hardening, and compliance-related work.
  • Protect organizational data through proper access control and secure system handling.

Asset and configuration management

  • Keep accurate records for hardware, software licenses, and IT assets.
  • Track the full equipment lifecycle from purchase and deployment through maintenance, replacement, and disposal.
  • Contribute to recommendations and rollout of new hardware and software purchases.

Documentation and knowledge management

  • Maintain technical procedures, system diagrams, configuration records, and operating documentation.
  • Record incidents, service requests, troubleshooting actions, and fixes in the ticketing system.
  • Build and update knowledge base content to help users solve common issues independently.

Backup, recovery, and continuity

  • Check that scheduled backups complete successfully and assist with restoration tasks.
  • Support disaster recovery and continuity of operations planning and execution.
  • Take part in recovery testing and validation activities.

Project and team support

  • Help deliver IT projects, system rollouts, migrations, upgrades, and refresh efforts.
  • Participate in testing and validating new technologies and software solutions.
  • Work closely with network engineers, cybersecurity staff, developers, and vendors to implement fixes and solutions.

Required experience and qualifications

The ideal candidate has practical experience in help desk support, systems administration, and end-user technical support in an enterprise environment. Strong troubleshooting ability, excellent customer service, and solid communication and organizational skills are essential. The role also calls for a strong working knowledge of Windows desktops and servers, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, networking fundamentals, cybersecurity practices, backup and recovery, and support for office, classroom, and server-room IT equipment.

Certifications and clearance

This role is aligned with DoD 8140/8570 expectations. Helpful certifications include CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft certifications, or ITIL Foundation. An active Secret clearance is required, and TS/SCI eligibility is preferred.

Education

An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience may be accepted in place of a degree.

Physical and work requirements

This is an on-site role at the National Security Space Institute, including work in secure spaces such as SCIF environments. The position may occasionally require after-hours support during assessments, inspections, or incident response events. The candidate must be able to lift and carry network equipment weighing up to 50 lbs when needed.

Compensation and employment details

In line with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected salary range for this role is $70,000 to $80,000. Final offers may vary based on experience, education, training, key skills, location, and contractual requirements. Sigmatech also notes that all qualified applicants will be considered without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
