Role Overview
The Healthy Weight Nurse works within Manchester's citywide Healthy Weight Team, collaborating closely with schools to enhance health outcomes among children, young people, and families. The role supports the School Health Service's efforts to combat childhood obesity, one of Manchester's key public health priorities, by delivering guidance and assistance related to healthy weight management.
Key Responsibilities
The post involves providing comprehensive and evidence-based weight management support to children and their families in school nursery settings or reception classes, particularly those identified through the National Child Measurement Programme or referrals from GPs, schools, or Health Visitors. The nurse ensures safe and effective intervention tailored to these young individuals' needs.
They also collaborate with the wider school health team and partner agencies to promote healthy weight among children and young people, while fulfilling statutory safeguarding duties.
