Role overview
Applications are invited from caring, dependable Healthcare Assistants / Personal Assistants to support members in Edenderry, County Offaly. The role is based in members’ homes and local communities, helping them maintain as much independence as possible in day-to-day life.
Working pattern
This is a permanent part-time role of 25 hours per week. Availability across mornings, afternoons, evenings, and every second weekend is required.
What the role involves
The main aim of the post is to assist members with everyday living so they can remain independent and supported in the community. Duties may include personal care, domestic support, social and educational support, travel assistance, and companionship.
The position involves working in members’ homes and community settings, and coordinating with other home carers as well as the ALS Coordinator / Scheduling staff where needed.
Pay and benefits
The hourly pay starts at €16.22 and can rise to €18.03 depending on experience. Enhanced rates apply for Sundays and public holidays. Sunday pay starts from €24.33 per hour, while public holiday pay starts from €32.44 per hour. The pay scale is also due to increase by 2% in 2026 in line with the WRC interim agreement for Section 39 organisations.
Additional benefits include paid inter-client mileage, sick pay, maternity and paternity pay, holiday pay calculated at 8% of hours worked, access to a PRSA pension scheme, Bike to Work Scheme, Employee Assistance Service, good working conditions, and support for ongoing training and development.
Requirements and qualifications
Applicants should hold a full Major Award at QQI Level 5 in Community Health Services, Health Service Skills, Healthcare Support, or another relevant qualification, with a commitment to complete the major award if not already finished.
Previous experience in a caring role is essential. Candidates must be reliable, trustworthy, able to maintain confidentiality, and have strong spoken and written English. A full driving licence and access to a personal vehicle are essential, and the ability to drive a service user’s vehicle is preferred.
