Role Overview
The Health & Safety Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the deployment, ongoing monitoring, and continual advancement of the company's health and safety management systems. This position ensures strict adherence to relevant health and safety laws, company policies, and industry standards while fostering a positive safety culture across all levels of the organization.
Work Details
Location: Cork, County Cork, Ireland. The role requires travel between three sites within Cork City, making personal transportation essential. The working schedule is Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, execution, and upkeep of the Health & Safety Management System.
- Guarantee compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and corporate policies.
- Conduct frequent workplace inspections and audits to identify hazards and propose corrective measures.
- Assist with performing risk assessments and ensure suitable control mechanisms are in place.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and hazardous occurrences, preparing detailed reports and suggesting preventative steps.
- Oversee corrective actions to confirm their completion within set deadlines.
- Maintain thorough health and safety documentation including training records, inspection reports, accident logs, and risk assessments.
- Coordinate health and safety induction programs and ongoing employee training initiatives.
- Support managerial staff in implementing safe work practices.
- Monitor contractor adherence to site-specific safety requirements.
- Assist in managing emergency response protocols, evacuation drills, and first aid arrangements.
- Drive awareness campaigns and promote a positive health and safety culture fostering employee engagement.
- Compile reports and health and safety performance metrics for management review.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, external auditors, and insurance representatives as necessary.
- Stay informed about changes in health and safety legislation and relay relevant information throughout the company.
- Engage in continuous improvement activities to elevate workplace safety standards.
Experience and Qualifications
- At least two years of experience in a health and safety role.
- Practical experience in conducting risk assessments and investigating workplace incidents.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare compliance documentation and audit reports.
Knowledge and Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Strong organizational and administrative capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to influence and engage persons at various organizational levels.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and prioritizing workloads effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with health and safety management software is an advantage.
