Provider Payment Modeling Team Overview

The Provider Payment Modeling (PPM) team collaborates with state Medicaid agencies and other public health and human services bodies to create, analyze, and administer intricate provider payment and funding programs. Their support encompasses the full payment lifecycle, from policy assessment and financial modeling to implementation guidance and ongoing operations. PPM projects require rigorous analytics, a policy-based approach, and extensive cooperation, frequently spanning multiple states and provider categories.

PPM Core Product Areas

• Cost Reporting & Supplemental Payments: Designing and managing Medicaid cost reports, conducting desk reviews and audits, and modeling supplemental payment schemes including UPL and directed payments.
• Rate Setting: Developing and assessing reimbursement methods based on cost and utilization studies, ensuring compliance with regulations and federal approvals.
• Payment Innovation: Evaluating alternative and performance-based payment models to encourage quality, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
• Actuarial Services: Delivering actuarially sound financial modeling and consultation to support Medicaid and other public health initiatives, including cost-driver and risk evaluations and integrating actuarial findings into payment strategies.

Position Responsibilities

• Assist in gathering, validating, and analyzing data tied to provider payment models, cost reports, or rate-setting efforts.
• Create and maintain financial spreadsheets, analytical instruments, tracking tools, and associated documentation.
• Prepare polished client deliverables such as reports, exhibits, spreadsheets, and summaries.
• Engage in client and internal meetings including taking notes, tracking action items, and coordinating follow-ups.
• Collaborate with project managers and senior members to achieve project deadlines, uphold quality, and satisfy client requirements.
• Contribute to internal improvements, documentation, and onboarding materials.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree is mandatory; a Master's in public policy, public health, economics, finance, or related fields is preferred.
• Experience or keen interest in Medicaid, healthcare finance/policy, or public sector consulting is desired.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficiency in Excel and comfort handling complex, large datasets.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a collaborative team setting.

Additional Information

Compensation varies by location, skill set, and experience with a range between $70,100 and $85,000 annually. Benefits include medical and dental coverage, 401k, paid time off, parental leave, and bereavement leave.
