Role overview
This position is responsible for overseeing the full direct and indirect taxation function for a manufacturing business. The role calls for strong ownership of statutory compliance, tax planning, audit support, litigation management, and tax governance, along with close coordination across internal teams and external advisors.
Key responsibilities
- Take charge of indirect and direct tax matters, along with other relevant statutory compliance requirements.
- Ensure monthly GST returns are filed on time after complete reconciliation, and handle the filing of other required GST returns.
- Prepare, review, and submit TDS returns, income tax returns, tax audit reports, and associated compliance tasks through a structured compliance calendar.
- Support tax planning and efficiency by making the best use of GST input tax credit, TDS credits, available government incentives, and other tax-saving opportunities while keeping risks under control.
- Manage GST audits, income tax assessments, departmental notices, scrutiny proceedings, appeals, and litigation by working with tax authorities and consultants.
- Improve ERP-based tax controls by reviewing tax masters, accounting entries, ledger checks, HSN/SAC classification, and related tax processes.
- Track changes in tax laws, issue internal advisories, conduct employee training sessions, and roll out compliance actions as needed.
- Prepare tax MIS reports, compliance dashboards, management exception reports, and track the status of audits, notices, assessments, and appeals.
- Work closely with Internal Audit, Statutory Audit, Cost Audit, and outside consultants to close tax observations within timelines.
- Lead the taxation team with a focus on operational discipline, strong internal controls, process improvement, and full compliance with statutory requirements.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate should be a qualified CA, ICWA/CMA, or hold an equivalent qualification. Additional education in taxation or law will be an advantage. The role requires 10 to 15 years of experience in corporate taxation within a manufacturing setting, with cable industry exposure preferred. Strong working knowledge of GST, income tax, TDS/TCS, ERP systems, MS Excel, and statutory compliance is essential.
Additional requirements
The candidate must be capable of independently handling GST audits and income tax scrutiny cases. They should be able to lead both direct and indirect tax functions, ensure timely filing and compliance, manage tax risk, support tax strategy and advisory, and contribute to business decisions through effective tax governance.
