Job description

Role Overview

As the Head of Compressor Development & Design, you will lead the Compressor Development & Design team both technically and managerially. You will bear responsibility for the technical success of our development and design projects, ensuring adherence to quality, schedule, and budget goals. You will continuously advance standards and processes and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams from engineering, production, purchasing, and sales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Compressor Development & Design department professionally and disciplinarily
  • Oversee, support, mentor, and evaluate team members’ performance and development
  • Hold technical responsibility for refrigerant compressor development projects, including concept selection, design approvals, and design reviews
  • Coordinate construction, calculations, testing, and validation processes
  • Develop, implement, and continually improve design guidelines, standards, and procedures
  • Create innovative solutions focused on efficiency, sustainability, and compliance with regulations
  • Assess new technologies and market trends related to natural and synthetic refrigerants in compressor contexts
  • Ensure quality, timeline, and cost compliance across all development and design projects
  • Collaborate closely with product management, production, purchasing, and sales to ensure efficient product development
  • Support patent and innovation activities
  • Assist management with strategic portfolio development focusing on refrigerant compressors and resource planning for the Compressor Development & Design area

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, process engineering, refrigeration technology, or equivalent technical education
  • Several years of leadership experience in development and design
  • Strong expertise in compressor development, ideally with practical experience in refrigerant compressor design and engineering
  • Experience handling thermodynamic, mechanical, and fluid dynamics challenges
  • Good knowledge of relevant standards and regulatory requirements in refrigeration technology
  • Experience with project management and series production development
  • Proficiency with modern CAD and PLM systems, preferably CATIA V5, CREO, and Windchill
  • Entrepreneurial mindset along with excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Structured, solution-driven, and independent working style
  • Fluent in German and English
