Job description

Role Overview

This contract graphic design opportunity is focused on creating educational, outreach, and public-awareness materials for nutrition education and social marketing efforts. The role partners with program teams to turn campaign goals into clear, engaging visual assets for varied and diverse audiences.

Work Arrangement and Schedule

  • Contract length: 6 months
  • Workload: Part-time, 22.5 hours per week
  • First 4 months: fully remote
  • Months 5 and 6: hybrid, with one onsite day each week in Boston, MA
  • Location base: Boston, MA

Core Design Work

The designer will develop a range of print and digital materials, including brochures, booklets, flyers, banner ads, billboards, presentation decks, and related outreach assets. The work also includes building polished layouts and graphics in Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator, along with supporting video-adjacent and digital campaign creative.

Inclusive and Multilingual Communication

A major part of the assignment is producing culturally responsive visuals that communicate effectively across varied communities. The designer will prepare multilingual publications supporting up to nine languages while keeping accessibility, readability, and audience engagement in mind.

Print Production and Vendor Coordination

From concept to final delivery, the role involves managing print production workflows. This includes requesting vendor bids through state procurement tools, helping with vendor selection, coordinating schedules with printers and translators, checking proofs, and confirming quality before materials go to print. The designer will also help assess vendor performance and maintain productive external relationships.

Branding and Team Collaboration

The position requires careful file organization, asset management, and strict adherence to brand and program standards. The designer will work closely with program managers, communications staff, and other stakeholders, and may also provide design support for conferences, workshops, presentations, and special projects.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should bring 1–2 years of professional graphic design experience, strong command of Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator, and practical experience producing both print and digital marketing materials. The role also calls for experience handling print production, vendor coordination, multilingual layouts, and communication for diverse audiences, along with strong organization, collaboration, and multitasking skills.

Preferred Background

Additional value is given to candidates who have supported public health, education, government, nonprofit, or community outreach initiatives. Experience with social marketing campaigns, translation/localization work, procurement or vendor bidding, and inclusive or accessible design practices is also preferred.

Portfolio Requirement

Applicants must submit a portfolio that demonstrates print and digital design work, outreach or marketing materials, multilingual or culturally diverse projects, and publication or layout design samples.
