Role overview
This position serves as the company’s main interface with government bodies in Qatar. The role centers on regulatory adherence, relationship management with officials, support for national hiring initiatives, and the development of public-private partnerships that deliver commercial value and broader national benefit. It also includes policy advocacy, handling regulatory inquiries and audits, and advising senior leaders on cultural and regulatory risks.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the company’s central contact for communication with government agencies and related authorities.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with key officials and other public-sector stakeholders.
- Work with government entities to support hiring and retention initiatives for Qatari nationals and children of Qatari women, aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030.
- Identify and drive new partnerships with government bodies in areas such as training, infrastructure, and digital innovation.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with applicable local, regional, and national laws and regulations.
- Track legislative and regulatory changes and recommend actions needed to stay compliant.
- Represent the organization in policy discussions and advocate for its interests in regulatory matters.
- Prepare policy submissions and present the company’s positions to officials and regulatory authorities.
- Participate in consultations, industry forums, and policy workshops to help shape a constructive regulatory environment.
- Convert external legal and regulatory requirements into practical guidance for internal teams.
- Deliver training and support so teams remain informed and compliant.
- Create and execute strategies that influence policy and regulatory outcomes relevant to the business.
- Spot opportunities to engage in government-led programs and initiatives.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and executive briefings on government and regulatory matters for senior management.
- Manage responses to government inquiries, investigations, and audits, and develop mitigation plans for related risks.
- Represent the company at conferences, industry events, and meetings to strengthen its government and industry network.
- Develop and oversee the departmental budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and tracking spend and return on investment.
- Find ways to reduce costs where possible without affecting quality.
- Advise senior leaders on local cultural norms, political considerations, and regulatory risks when making strategic decisions.
- Collaborate across departments to align initiatives and support business growth.
- Promote teamwork, continuous improvement, and cross-functional coordination.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, or another relevant discipline is required.
- A master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience in governmental relations, public affairs, or a closely related function is needed.
- Prior work experience in Qatar is highly desirable.
- Ability to handle complex information, trends, and changing external conditions to support business strategy.
- Comfort with change, ambiguity, and evolving ways of working while remaining organized and effective.
- Leadership capability to build alignment, motivate teams, and drive ownership of outcomes.
- Strong focus on results, performance improvement, and accountability.
- Customer-oriented mindset with the ability to understand needs and maintain productive relationships.
