Role overview
BGR Group, a bipartisan government affairs and strategic advisory firm in Washington, D.C., is looking for a Government Affairs Coordinator to support senior lobbyists and the broader state and local advocacy team. The role combines administrative coordination, client support, scheduling, and operational assistance across a wide range of policy work.
This position is best suited to someone who is highly organized, detail-focused, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-moving environment. Strong judgment, a polished professional style, discretion, and the ability to juggle several priorities at once are important for success.
Administrative and operational support
- Handle busy, constantly changing calendars for senior lobbyists.
- Set up internal and external meetings, including scheduling, room preparation, briefing packets, hospitality, and follow-up tasks.
- Welcome clients and visitors and help keep the office environment professional and inviting.
- Develop background briefs, travel plans, and meeting materials for client sessions, congressional briefings, conferences, and events.
- Book travel and submit expense reports using Concur.
- Monitor deadlines, deliverables, and action items across client accounts and internal projects.
- Keep filing systems, contact lists, mailing lists, and administrative records well organized.
- Support onboarding, event planning, and other operational needs for the practice group.
Client service and communications
- Act as a contact point for clients, congressional offices, executive branch agencies, state associations, and internal teams.
- Help maintain strong client relationships through prompt communication and coordination.
- Draft, edit, proofread, and format client-facing materials such as policy summaries, newsletters, election updates, and presentations.
- Manage the distribution of client communications and related follow-ups.
- Update and maintain client records in Salesforce.
Team and practice group coordination
- Work with principals and other practice groups on shared client projects.
- Assist with hearings, fly-ins, board meetings, conferences, and special events.
- Provide day-to-day operational support to keep workflows moving efficiently.
- Contribute ideas and support efforts to streamline administrative processes and improve team productivity.
Qualifications and tools
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in an administrative, government, political, or similar role is strongly preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills and careful attention to detail are essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities are expected.
- Ability to manage several priorities at once in a fast-paced setting is important.
- A professional presence and strong interpersonal skills are needed.
- Experience using AI workplace tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms for research, drafting, workflow support, and client service is expected.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office Suite, Concur, Salesforce, Teams, and related office software is required.
Work environment
This role is based in BGR Group’s Washington, D.C. office and requires onsite attendance five days per week. The setting is highly collaborative and includes frequent client meetings and events.
Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000 per year, along with a generous benefits package.
