Team and Role Overview

The Governance team, part of Council Operations, plays a pivotal role in fostering effective local democracy. It offers expert advice, oversight, and support to elected representatives and staff to ensure transparent, compliant, and efficient council decision-making processes.

The Council invites applications for Governance Advisor or Senior Governance Advisor positions within its Governance team. This specialist role supports the Council, committees, and community boards by delivering professional governance services, legislative guidance, and maintaining democratic processes. Appointment level depends on the candidate's experience, skills, and governance expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide governance expertise, resilience, and sound judgement.
  • Support effective local government governance processes.
  • Work from the Richmond, Tasman office.
  • Contribute to decisions shaping the Tasman community's future.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience in governance, preferably within the local government sector.
  • Strong understanding of the Local Government Act and Standing Orders.
  • Political awareness and acumen.
  • Excellent judgement and adept problem-solving abilities.
  • Resilience and ability to adapt quickly under pressure.
  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Relevant qualifications in legal studies, management, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
