Job description
About One Acre Fund
Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supports 5.5 million smallholder farmers by helping them improve the productivity of their land. Operating across nine African countries that collectively include two-thirds of the continent’s farmers, the organization delivers farm inputs, tree seedlings, accessible credit, practical agronomy training, and a broad set of agricultural services. On average, this approach helps participating farmers raise income and asset value on supported land by more than 35% while also strengthening long-term resilience. This work is powered by a global workforce of 9,000+ full-time employees from many different backgrounds and professions.
About the Role
One Acre Fund finances its working capital by borrowing debt, which is used to purchase agricultural inputs in advance and extend credit to farmers. As part of the Investor Relations team, you will help manage these funding needs, build and expand relationships with lenders, and provide guidance on capital structure and liquidity decisions.
The Investor Relations team has three members based in New York and Nairobi and sits within the broader Finance division. In this position, you will report to the Investor Relations Director and work independently to build a pipeline of debt investment opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Raise debt financing by identifying, structuring, and closing working capital facilities with African banks and other commercial financing partners in the countries where the organization operates. The annual target for deals is in the 7- to 8-figure range in USD or equivalent. A major part of the role is to drive the organization’s local currency funding and structured working capital products, including BOE and receivables financing.
- Represent the Investor Relations function across sub-Saharan Africa by attending conferences, panel discussions, investor events, and visits from prospective and existing investors to operational sites. You will also stay current on market movements and transaction activity in the organization’s operating markets.
- Support broader team priorities by contributing to capital structure discussions, liquidity tracking, risk review, and financing strategy. You will also assist with external financial reporting, analysis, proposals, and other reporting needs as required.
Career Growth and Development
The organization emphasizes continuous learning and actively invests in employee development. You can expect weekly check-ins with your manager, access to mentoring and training opportunities, and regular performance feedback. Career reviews are held every six months, with time set aside to discuss personal goals and long-term growth. The role also offers the chance to help shape a growing organization and build a meaningful long-term career.
Qualifications
For this position, the employer is looking for an exceptional banking professional with 8–10+ years of experience in loan structuring and a strong commitment to the mission.
- Proven success originating and structuring loans in the 7- to 8-figure range in USD or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience managing the full debt-raising process independently, including prospecting, due diligence, term negotiation, and legal documentation with legal counsel support.
- Ability to build and sustain strong relationships with external clients and internal stakeholders while understanding the drivers behind decision-making.
- Background in corporate finance and analysis of financial statements.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modeling capability.
- Well-established network within the banking and investment community in Africa.
