Job description
Position Overview
The GIS Planner plays a vital technical role in managing and operating the County's GIS data and mapping systems focused on land-use planning. Responsibilities include overseeing the GIS Server, ArcGIS Online (AGOL), ArcGIS Enterprise, plus associated spatial data repositories. The Planner develops and maintains both fixed and interactive GIS maps used by the Department of Planning & Codes and other County departments as needed.
Collaboration and Participation
This role involves close cooperation with the County's GIS Administrator to ensure GIS data accuracy, consistency, and efficient management. The GIS Planner also works alongside IT teams, vendors, and private contractors to support GIS projects. Participation in regional and state-level GIS groups such as the Maryland State Geographic Information Committee (MSGIC) and the Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative (ESRGC) is also expected.
Work Environment and Supervision
The Planner operates under general supervision of the Director or designee, with duties reviewed periodically. Work is primarily office-based with typical business hours aligning with County operations.
