Job description

Job Overview

This role involves supporting geographic information system (GIS) operations by gathering spatial imagery and data from multiple sources including government agencies, military locations, private firms, and architect-engineers. The position requires entering and processing spatial and tabular data in GIS, creating and editing multi-layer maps, generating reports, and ensuring the technical accuracy of mapping data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather imagery and spatial datasets from diverse entities such as local, state, federal organizations, military bases, and private contractors.
  • Conduct data input, creation, and geo-processing activities within GIS platforms, handling both map and tabular information.
  • Create, edit, and maintain multi-layer maps, and produce map and report outputs while verifying the correctness of geographic data.
  • Assist in developing and managing straightforward spatial and relational geo-referenced databases.
  • Support initiatives to implement database architectures, enforce data standards and dictionaries, develop automated map libraries, and data validation procedures.
  • Participate in professional forums, seminars, workshops, and training to remain current with emerging GIS developments and applications.

Qualifications and Conditions

  • Appointment contingent upon suitability determination and completion of a background security investigation.
  • Signing mobility and Army Fellows Participant agreements required if selected.
  • Male candidates born after December 31, 1959, must complete Selective Service pre-employment certification.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
  • Formal education includes a Bachelor’s degree or higher in geography or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in geography or related disciplines, or equivalent education and experience combination.
  • Specialized experience of at least one year involving GIS-related mapping, data collection, and database maintenance, typical of a GS-05 level role, or relevant graduate-level education, or superior academic achievement qualifications.
  • Foreign education credentials must be evaluated for U.S. equivalence where applicable.

  • This position is filled under Direct Hire Authority for certain DoD personnel.
  • U.S. citizenship verification and direct deposit enrollment are mandatory.
  • Subject to DoD referral restrictions and reemployed annuitant provisions.
  • Part of the Construction, Analysis, Science, Infrastructure & Engineers (CASIE) career field, with multiple vacancies possible.
  • Salary includes local market supplements and applicable locality pay.
