About the Role
Our client operates as a dynamic custom seating manufacturer and distributor based in Victoria, VA, with two major facilities including a 100,000 sq. ft. cold storage and a 280,000 sq. ft. production and warehousing site. They require an engaged Director of Operations to oversee daily warehouse and shipping activities, implement structured processes in a fast-moving environment, and act as the primary liaison between the U.S. operations and the corporate headquarters in Alberta, Canada. This role focuses heavily on warehousing and distribution rather than manufacturing, as inbound and outbound shipping tasks represent approximately 90% of operations alongside a smaller assembly line.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily functions including receiving, inventory control, shipping, and minor production and assembly tasks
- Recruit, develop, and lead a competent shipping team of around 20-25 employees
- Maintain optimal warehouse organization and ensure efficient movement of products through the facility
- Deliver proactive reports and maintain transparent communications with the head office covering staffing, production status, and risk areas
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and oversee basic human resources functions such as hiring, scheduling, and performance management
- Manage relationships with vendors, carriers, and maintain equipment coordination

- Regular and transparent communication with headquarters, avoiding last-minute issues
- Timely order fulfillment and maintaining high inventory accuracy
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum five years in a leadership role within warehousing, distribution, or light manufacturing environments
- Demonstrated success managing hourly staff and juggling multiple operational tasks under strict deadlines
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work autonomously and report efficiently to remote leadership teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Monday.com CRM, Microsoft Teams, and ERP/MRP/WMS systems like Great Plains
- Decisive leadership and alignment with company values and vision
- Availability for occasional weekend and overtime work, especially during initial 3 to 6 months
Compensation and Work Schedule
- Base salary ranging from $100,000 to $150,000 annually, reviewed after 90 days
- Eligibility for bonuses including a standard Christmas bonus and an annual bonus based on company performance
- Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with some early schedule flexibility required initially
- Reporting line to the Vice President of Operations and the company President
