Job description

Overview

Beechboro Primary School, located about 14 km east of Perth, is looking to build a pool of Gardener - Handyperson candidates for permanent and fixed-term roles, available as either full-time or part-time. These vacancies may arise across the 2026 school year and through to the end of Term 2, 2027, and appointments may be made at any point during that period.

The school supports students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and is known for its strong community connections, high expectations for achievement and conduct, and a warm, supportive culture guided by the motto “Caring and Sharing.” Its behaviour program encourages positive conduct, including the school’s “B.U.G” awards, which recognise students for doing well across school life.

About the role

The Gardener - Handyperson helps keep the school environment safe, tidy, attractive and welcoming for students, staff and visitors. The role covers the upkeep of grounds and outdoor spaces, including turf, garden beds, shrubs, trees, soft landscaping areas, and hard landscaping such as courts, paving and sports facilities.

This position suits someone who enjoys working on their own, takes ownership of tasks, and is comfortable improving and maintaining both outdoor and indoor areas. The work includes general gardening, identifying and completing tasks independently, and carrying out minor maintenance and repair work in line with Department of Education policies and guidelines.

In partnership with school staff, contractors and the Manager Corporate Services, the successful applicant will help ensure grounds, buildings, tools, equipment and machinery remain clean, safe and serviceable. The role also requires strict observance of occupational safety and health expectations, including the safe use, storage and handling of gardening equipment, materials and hazardous substances.

Selection expectations

Ideal candidates will communicate effectively, stay organised, work with minimal supervision and be dependable. The ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and external contractors is also important.

Full role details, selection criteria and training requirements are contained in the attached Job Description Form (JDF).
