Job description
About the Role
Based in Singapore with remote options for candidates in Vietnam or Indonesia, this role involves comprehensive ownership of production applications and the AWS infrastructure supporting them. You'll be responsible for the entire tech stack including a React single-page application and its build pipeline, a Django/Channels backend with real-time WebSocket capabilities, a Node/Express CommonDB service, as well as the AWS hosting and DevOps systems. The position demands implementing modern engineering practices such as version control, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), and infrastructure as code. You will have significant autonomy to influence how the system evolves.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance the React (Create React App) SPA, managing features like code-split bundles, geospatial mapping via OpenLayers, and CAD/BIM integrations including Sketchfab and Autodesk APS/Forge tools.
- Develop and expand the Django backend including its real-time features powered by Django Channels/ASGI through Daphne and Nginx.
- Manage asynchronous background job processing with Celery, Celery Beat, and Flower.
- Maintain the Node/Express CommonDB API and handle integrations with platforms such as Autodesk APS/Forge, Stripe, and Google Maps.
- Oversee AWS infrastructure in the ap-southeast-1 region, including EC2, ALB, CloudFront, S3, ACM, and Route 53, transitioning manual deployments into automated and reproducible pipelines.
- Manage the source code repositories by importing projects into Git and instituting proper branching strategies and version control workflows.
Technical Stack
- Frontend: React with Create React App, OpenLayers, Sketchfab viewer, Autodesk Platform Services, Chart.js, Bootstrap 4, Font Awesome, animate.css, toastr, jQuery, Stripe.js, Google Maps and Analytics, multi-language i18n support (English, Malay, Indonesian, German, Portuguese, Spanish, French).
- Backend: Django, Django Channels (ASGI), Daphne, Nginx proxy, Django REST Framework with token authentication, Django admin console.
- Async Jobs: Celery, Celery Beat, Flower, using Redis/ElastiCache as broker.
- Services: Node.js/Express CommonDB hosted on EC2, Autodesk OAuth integration.
- AWS Services: EC2, EBS, VPC, ALB, ACM, CloudFront, S3, Route 53.
- DevOps: Git, AWS CloudShell, budgets and anomaly detection, GitHub Actions with OIDC, Terraform and CloudFormation for infrastructure as code.
Required Qualifications
- Expertise in React development including project setup with Create React App, client-side routing, and asset code-splitting with hashed builds.
- Strong Python and Django experience, familiarity with Django Channels, ASGI, and real-time WebSocket protocols.
- Proficient understanding of core AWS services like EC2, S3, CloudFront, ALB, ACM, IAM, VPC, and Route 53.
- Experience managing Git workflows including branching and version control best practices.
- Security-conscious regarding frontend builds, able to remove exposed secrets, resolve mixed content, and disable source maps in production.
Preferred Extras
- Hands-on with Autodesk Platform Services/Forge or knowledge of CAD/BIM formats (Revit, Navisworks, Inventor).
- Experience with 3D/WebGL technologies, particularly three.js.
- Proficiency with Celery tooling for asynchronous job management.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Background in CI/CD pipeline creation, ideally with GitHub Actions and OIDC authentication.
- Payment gateway integration such as Stripe.
- Geospatial mapping expertise with OpenLayers and scalable internationalization.
- Experience with Node.js/Express and containerization technologies like Docker.
- Knowledge of AWS Cognito or cost optimization practices on AWS.
Personal Attributes
- A proactive approach taking full ownership without requiring constant direction.
- Default mindset prioritizing security measures continuously.
- Pragmatic balancing between delivery speed and managing technical debt within an early-stage product.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-developer stakeholders.
- Comfortable collaborating with AI-assisted development and DevOps tools.
Why Join This Team
You will have the unusual chance to be the principal architect for an active SaaS product, shaping its engineering foundations from scratch. This includes creating automated pipelines, infrastructure as code, and strong production security measures. You won't just maintain code — you'll be the engineer defining the future system architecture and operational standards with high autonomy and clear visibility of your impact.
