Job description
About Lyka
Established in 2018 by Anna Podolsky, inspired by her dog Lyka's health struggles despite premium diets, Lyka crafts vet-created, gently cooked fresh dog meals using real ingredients delivered through a flexible subscription. The company has rapidly become one of Australia's leading consumer brands focused on pet health, operating from Sydney and Melbourne with three advanced production facilities. Lyka aims to revolutionize pet wellness with a fast-growing, tech-driven, integrated business.
Role Overview
As a Fulfilment Team Leader for the afternoon shift, you will oversee the fulfillment operations where orders are packed, checked, and shipped. You will manage the shift's equipment, personnel, productivity, and standards from start to finish. Your leadership will involve decision-making, troubleshooting, and maintaining performance metrics with minimal supervision after the day shift concludes. You will report to the Fulfillment Manager and collaborate closely with Maintenance, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to ensure smooth and improving fulfillment processes, including handing over a clear shift transition.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of Operators, managing rosters, timesheets, and staffing decisions to keep the shift effectively resourced and coordinated.
- Manage the production floor operations by resolving equipment problems, eliminating bottlenecks, and overseeing key performance indicators like OEE, yield, scrap, and downtime.
- Monitor the flow of raw materials, work in progress, and finished products while actively controlling waste, inventory accuracy, and shipping/receiving functions.
- Ensure compliance with quality and food safety procedures by implementing 5S methodology, conducting CCP/QCP checks, promptly escalating any deviations, and leading root cause analysis as needed.
- Promote and uphold a proactive safety culture by leading incident investigations and enforcing PPE use, lockout/tagout procedures, and guarding standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives through Lean, Six Sigma, and kaizen practices, empowering Operators to solve problems beyond simply following processes.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous leadership experience in production or fulfillment teams, preferably within food manufacturing or similarly regulated settings, managing shifts under KPI pressure while maintaining safety and quality.
- Ability to operate independently with confidence in interpreting production data, making timely decisions, and leading directly on the floor.
- Strong organizational skills to handle rosters, record keeping, and CMMS/SHEQMS system data without creating bottlenecks.
- Calm demeanor when managing multiple areas and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of food safety standards such as HACCP and GMP is highly advantageous.
Employee Benefits
- Experience the inner workings of a fast-scaling start-up with a physical product.
- Opportunity for professional growth with diverse daily challenges and access to an annual learning and development budget.
- Join a sustainability-driven organization committed to pet health and environmental responsibility as Australia's sole carbon-negative and plastic-negative pet wellness company.
- Work alongside a diverse, highly skilled team from various backgrounds.
- Enhanced parental leave with up to 18 weeks of paid top-up.
- Wellbeing support for mental and physical health to enable your peak performance.
- Support for pet owners, including flexible arrangements for new pets, pet-friendly offices, discounts, and financial support for pet care.
Inclusion Commitment
Lyka is dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusive workplaces and encourages applicants from all backgrounds. Support and access accommodations are welcomed during the application process.
