Job description
About the role
This position is for a Shift Leader in a busy retail store, where each day brings a different set of tasks and priorities. The role is centered on keeping customers at the heart of decisions while helping the store run smoothly through strong team coordination and hands-on leadership.
Working pattern
The role has a broad availability window across all seven days of the week, from 06:00 to 22:00. Contracted hours will be scheduled within these times, and shifts will be shared with three weeks’ notice. The company states that new colleagues are normally offered at least 16 guaranteed hours per week, although there may also be opportunities for a minimum of 12 hours per week. Flexibility is welcomed if your availability closely matches the advertised window.
Pay
The hourly pay begins at £14.76. For stores within the M25, the rate increases to £15.97 per hour. Depending on location, additional payments may also be available.
What the role involves
As a Shift Leader, you will help direct the team so store activities are delivered effectively in a fast-moving retail setting. You will coach colleagues on the job, share feedback, and look for ways to improve customer service. A strong understanding of team performance is important, along with the ability to identify practical improvements. You will also help ensure the area you manage remains safe for both shoppers and colleagues.
What the team experience is like
Working in this store means supporting customers every day, meeting new people, learning continuously, and being part of a varied and inclusive team. The role suits people looking for stability, flexibility, or a route to grow their career.
Why work here
Benefits include holiday entitlement starting at 20 days plus a personal day, rising to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to bank holidays. Flexible working can be requested from day one. You can get 10% off and 15% off on pay-day weekends, with potential savings of up to £2,000 a year through the Colleague Clubcard, plus an extra card to share with family outside your household. Other benefits include free wellbeing services, life cover worth five times pay, an award-winning pension with matched contributions up to 7.5%, and a choice of benefits such as discounts, shares, and cycle-to-work options. A uniform is provided, and support policies are in place for life’s important moments. Colleague networks are also available for support and connection.
About the employer
The organisation’s aim is to become the preferred shopping destination for every customer, whether in-store or online. Its purpose is to serve customers, communities, and the planet a little better every day. It also places strong emphasis on inclusion, wellbeing, responsible business practices, and flexible working discussions for people at different stages of life.
Additional information
The company states that applicants must have passed the school-leaving age. Candidates must be over 18 if the role involves work before 6:15 am or after 9:45 pm, or if it includes warehouse, beers, wines & spirits, counters, bakery, or driving duties. In periods of very high application volumes, the role may close earlier than the advertised end date. Individual feedback is only promised to candidates who attend an interview. The company also notes its commitment to a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process and has been recognised as a Disability Confident Leader.
