Freelance Illustrator – Wine Labels

Project overview

This assignment is for an experienced freelance illustrator to develop two front-label artworks for a new wine brand rooted in Greek mythology and inspired by the goddess Alectrona. The two labels will be used for a red GSM blend and a Sauvignon Blanc, and they need to work as a matched pair: separate pieces that feel fully connected when viewed together.

Each illustration should present Alectrona in a different mood and light treatment. The GSM label should convey full solar brilliance, while the Sauvignon Blanc label should evoke the cool light of dawn. Both designs must share the same overall structure and visual language, while still using different color palettes to distinguish the two wines.

The visual direction should feel painted, enduring, and emotionally rich, with movement and atmosphere taking priority over ornate, cartoon-like, or fantasy-heavy styling. Reference material covering palette, composition, and mood will be supplied, along with detailed creative guidance for the artwork and final files.

Deliverables

• Two front-label illustrations designed as a matching diptych, each showing Alectrona in the requested lighting and atmosphere
• A unified layout and shared design system across both labels, with separate color palettes for each wine
• Layered source files in PSD or AI format for both artworks
• CMYK print-ready PDF files suitable for production
• A combined diptych visual for marketing use
• Work completed in line with the supplied palette, composition, and mood references
• Possible follow-on work for a back label and additional marketing assets in a second phase

Requirements

• Substantial senior-level illustration experience, ideally including packaging or label artwork
• A portfolio that shows painterly, timeless, and atmospheric illustration work
• Confidence in turning mythology and mood into visually compelling artwork
• Strong working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and/or Illustrator, including print-file preparation
• Careful attention to detail, composition, and balanced use of color
• Ability to provide layered working files and high-resolution print assets
• Comfort with fast, clear communication and dependable turnaround times
• Willingness to study references closely and work within a detailed creative brief
