About the Opportunity
An innovative biotechnology company focused on next-generation biomarker discovery and precision health is looking for a fractional Chief Operating Officer to help steer growth and strengthen day-to-day execution. In this role, you will work closely with executive leadership to build scalable operating systems, advance company-wide initiatives, and support expansion in the U.S. life sciences market.
Role Summary
This is a part-time, fractional contract leadership role based in Cambridge, MA with a hybrid work arrangement.
Compensation is set at $185 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership to shape and carry out company growth plans.
- Design, improve, and standardize operating workflows across business, scientific, and administrative areas.
- Drive cross-functional programs that improve efficiency and help the organization scale.
- Contribute to budgeting, financial planning, resource planning, and operational forecasts.
- Define, track, and manage KPIs and other operational performance measures.
- Support fundraising efforts, investor updates, and strategic partnership discussions.
- Coordinate with outside stakeholders such as research partners, vendors, consultants, and business allies.
- Oversee project execution so corporate goals and deadlines stay aligned.
- Assess and introduce the systems, policies, and infrastructure needed to support growth.
- Offer hands-on leadership and guidance on organizational development and operating best practices.
Qualifications
- Previous experience serving as a COO, VP of Operations, General Manager, or in a comparable senior leadership position.
- Experience in biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare technology, diagnostics, or a closely related field is highly desirable.
- A track record of helping early-stage or scaling companies move forward successfully.
- Strong command of business operations, strategic planning, budgeting, and organizational development.
- Background working with investors, boards, and external strategic partners.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder coordination abilities.
- Comfort balancing high-level strategy with practical execution in a fast-moving environment.
- An MBA, advanced scientific qualification, or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to commercializing biotech, diagnostics, or healthcare innovation platforms.
- Familiarity with research partnerships, technology alliances, and regulated healthcare settings.
- Experience scaling startup operations and building organizational infrastructure from the ground up.
