Job description
About Smile Sync
Smile Sync is developing an AI-powered operating system for contemporary orthodontic practices. The product is designed to reduce manual work, improve team productivity, and give doctors live insight into how their practices are performing.
Today, many orthodontic offices still rely on disconnected legacy tools that lead to extra admin work, missed follow-ups, and limited operational visibility. Smile Sync is tackling this problem by building alongside real practices, allowing the team to test ideas quickly, learn from actual users, and continuously improve the product.
Compensation
This position comes with a meaningful equity package and a monthly retainer. Final compensation will be shaped by experience, availability, and the level of involvement.
The Role
Smile Sync is searching for a Founding UI/UX Designer to take full ownership of the product design experience from the earliest stage. This is a high-responsibility role for someone who wants to design software that real people use every day, rather than producing visuals that never reach users.
You will collaborate closely with the founders, engineers, and orthodontic office teams to translate complicated day-to-day workflows into simple, intuitive product experiences. This role is a strong fit for an ambitious designer who wants to build a standout portfolio project from zero to one, whether they are early in their career or seeking their first founding-level opportunity.
As the company grows, you will help define the product’s look and feel, usability standards, and overall user experience direction.
What You’ll Do
- Lead UI and UX design across the main areas of the Smile Sync platform
- Simplify complex orthodontic workflows into clear, easy-to-use interfaces
- Create wireframes, user journeys, prototypes, dashboards, task views, and broader product experiences
- Work side by side with founders, engineers, and practice staff to identify pain points and improve workflows
- Build polished Figma mockups that are ready for engineering implementation
- Develop and keep a consistent design system across the product
- Test ideas quickly, refine them often, and improve based on real user input
- Focus on usability, speed, clarity, and reducing workload for staff
- Influence early product direction, brand tone, and user experience standards
- Interview users and collect feedback to guide design decisions
Who You Are
You are ambitious, motivated, and eager to take ownership of a real product experience. You want a high-impact, founding-style role where your work genuinely shapes the product.
You should be comfortable designing modern SaaS, dashboard, CRM, or productivity-style software and working confidently in Figma with well-organized files. Beyond visual polish, you should be able to reason through user flows and design systems.
The ideal person is deeply focused on making software feel simple, fast, and intuitive. You should be open to learning directly from users, adapting quickly from feedback, and working well in uncertain, fast-changing startup conditions. Clear communication and the ability to explain design choices are also important.
Bonus Experience
- Background in designing SaaS dashboards, CRMs, scheduling tools, task systems, or workflow products
- Exposure to healthcare, dental, orthodontic, or practice management software
- Experience building design systems or component libraries
- Basic understanding of front-end development, responsive interfaces, or how designs are built
- Previous freelance, internship, startup, or side-project experience
- A portfolio that shows product thinking in addition to visual design
- Interest in AI tools, automation, and the future of work
Why Join Us
- Founding-level influence over the product, design system, and overall user experience
- Direct access to real users and rapid feedback cycles within orthodontic practices
- The chance to own the full scope of meaningful product design from day one
- Portfolio-defining experience building a real SaaS platform
- Close collaboration with founders and engineers in a fast-paced startup environment
- Compensation through equity plus a monthly retainer
- High autonomy, significant ownership, and early-stage upside
- A mission focused on helping orthodontic teams work smarter and giving doctors better visibility into their practices
The Ideal Fit
This is not a conventional design role where you wait for tasks and make small tweaks to an existing system. Smile Sync wants someone eager to prove themselves, learn quickly, and take charge of the design of a real product from the earliest stage.
The right candidate will care deeply about clean interfaces, thoughtful user flows, and making complicated work feel effortless. For that person, this is a rare opportunity to step into a design-lead role on an early product with real customers, real feedback, and real company-building upside.
