Job description

Role overview

Tetra Tech Europe is seeking a senior Flood Risk Assessor to lead flood risk assessment work that influences planning, design, and consenting decisions across Ireland. The role is available from Dublin, Cork, or Galway, with a hybrid working approach that includes remote and flexible arrangements where they fit business and project needs.

What you will do

You will sit within the Flood Risk Assessment team and contribute to a broad mix of flood risk, drainage, and water environment projects. Your work will include leading flood risk assessments, EIA water chapters, hydraulic modelling reports, and other technical outputs needed for planning, design, and consent submissions. You will work closely with colleagues from multiple disciplines to develop solutions that are technically strong, practical to deliver, and suited to each project.

In this position, you will also help strengthen the team by reviewing work, sharing knowledge, and supporting junior staff members. The role offers an opportunity to make an immediate impact through delivery of technical work, while also building broader consultancy experience and progressing toward more senior engineering or Associate-level responsibility.

Technical focus

You should bring solid hands-on knowledge of flood risk assessment, water environment assessment, and the Irish planning and consenting landscape. You will be expected to prepare robust technical material for Local Authorities, the Office of Public Works, and other relevant bodies, with a clear understanding of how flood risk can affect development and infrastructure.

The role also requires practical experience in flood hydrology and hydraulic processes, including open channel, surface water, and floodplain modelling. Familiarity with tools such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, or ICM InfoWorks would be useful. Just as important is the ability to challenge assumptions, review model outputs carefully, and confirm that analysis is suitable for its intended purpose.

Communication, design, and delivery

You will need to turn complex technical analysis into concise, persuasive reports that are easy for clients, planners, and consenting authorities to understand. The work involves close collaboration with civil, environmental, structural, and other technical specialists to develop flood risk and drainage solutions, including river engineering, SuDS, and nature-based or catchment-scale approaches. You will also contribute to project delivery in a consultancy setting, balancing programme, budget, and quality expectations.

Experience and qualifications

A degree in civil, water, or environmental engineering, or a closely related field, is required. Chartered Engineer status is strongly preferred, as is active progress toward chartership. The position calls for at least five years of experience in flood risk management. Membership in a professional body such as Engineers Ireland, CIWEM, or ICE, along with experience in GIS, EIA, SuDS, or nature-based solutions, would be an advantage.

Working arrangements

Regular office attendance is expected to support collaboration, client engagement, and team development, alongside travel for project and site work across Ireland when needed. The company also notes that reasonable adjustments can be provided to support candidates and employees who need additional accommodations in the recruitment process or in the role itself.

About the employer

Tetra Tech is a global consulting and engineering business working across the full project lifecycle. The company supports public and private sector clients on local, national, and international projects, with operations in the UK, Ireland, and the Netherlands employing more than 6,000 people. Its teams describe their approach as collaborative, innovative, and focused on delivering sustainable, resilient outcomes.

Recruitment note

The employer uses a preferred supplier list for agency support. Unsolicited CVs or candidate introductions from agencies outside that list are not acknowledged and may be treated as a gift.
