Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Firmware Engineer specializing in Wi-Fi technologies to join our Firmware Innovation Centre located in Chennai. The ideal candidate will have 5 to 8 years of experience designing and developing embedded software firmware for Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 chipsets. Your work will focus on firmware modules such as Upper MAC, Lower MAC, PHY integration, data and control paths, and performance enhancements operating within real-time operating system (RTOS) environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust Wi-Fi firmware modules focused on Data Path, Control Path, Upper MAC, Lower MAC, and PHY layers.
  • Enhance protocols and features specific to Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve critical firmware issues impacting system performance, stability, and throughput.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, RF, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless firmware functionality across all platform layers.
  • Optimize firmware for real-time embedded systems adhering to strict timing and system key performance indicators.
  • Participate actively in code reviews, firmware bring-up, and deployment to production hardware platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as FCC and ETSI and enforce feature conformance including DFS, CCA, and Spectral Scan functionalities.

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least 5 years of embedded software experience focused on Wi-Fi or cellular firmware development.
  • Comprehensive understanding of IEEE 802.11 protocols, with emphasis on Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 MAC and PHY layers, or equivalent cellular technologies (LTE/5G).
  • Strong expertise in real-time operating systems (RTOS) and debugging firmware bottlenecks and stability problems.
  • Hands-on experience with major Wi-Fi chipsets from Qualcomm, Broadcom, MediaTek, Intel, or similar vendors.
  • Proficiency with debugging tools such as Wireshark, GDB, iperf, and protocol sniffers.

Preferred (Advantageous) Qualifications

  • Experience with Qualcomm Wi-Fi or cellular chipsets.
  • Basic familiarity with host-side driver development including cfg80211, nl80211, and netlink interfaces.
  • Knowledge of Linux wireless userspace applications like hostapd and wpa_supplicant.
  • Exposure to embedded Wi-Fi platform tools such as OpenWRT, Yocto, and QSDK.
  • Understanding of multiple duplexing technologies: TDD/TDMA and FDD/FDMA.
  • Basic knowledge of bootloaders, BSP bring-up, and U-Boot configuration.
  • Experience with RF-related firmware features including DFS, Spectral Scan, transmit power control, and channel calibration.
  • Hands-on involvement with RF equipment such as spectrum analyzers and calibration methodologies.

Who Should Apply

Candidates with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience who have studied Computer Science Engineering are encouraged to apply.
