Role Overview
We seek a motivated and analytically proficient Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst to join our finance team. This pivotal role supports the entire planning cycle—including budgeting, forecasting, and financial close processes—for our diverse multi-channel retail business. Ideal candidates demonstrate initiative by independently exploring data, taking end-to-end ownership of assignments, and delivering accurate, rigorous analyses. They excel in high-pressure environments, managing their tasks without close oversight, and thrive on probing variance analyses to understand underlying causes. The position requires frequent collaboration and clear communication with multiple cross-functional stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate and disseminate weekly and monthly financial reports, emphasizing critical focus areas to guide action; closely collaborate with Marketing teams to assess spend effectiveness.
- Produce concise, accurate variance analyses comparing budgets, forecasts, and historical data, providing insightful cause-based narratives for significant differences.
- Develop and update comprehensive financial reporting packages and executive dashboards that simplify complex data into understandable performance insights.
- Continuously track business trends and flag potential risks or opportunities proactively to the FP&A Manager.
- Assist month-end closing by validating financial results, supporting accrual preparations, and reconciling figures.
- Maintain weekly rolling profit and loss (P&L) forecasts, revising assumptions to reflect latest trends and input from business partners.
- Build and refine driver-based financial models independently, ensuring clear assumptions, traceability, and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Participate in scenario and sensitivity analyses to inform business decisions and strategic plans.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities by constructing P&Ls grounded in verified business inputs and preparing materials for leadership review.
- Collaborate with business owners to collect and validate operational assumptions, ensuring comprehensive and accurate plans.
- Manage version-controlled planning files across the cycle to guarantee auditability.
- Lead preparation of deliverables and system submissions during planning phases.
- Serve as a dependable analytical resource for cross-functional teams, providing prompt, accurate responses with clear business perspectives.
- Conduct structured ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as needed.
- Prepare contextual financial materials for forecast review meetings, anticipating leader queries.
- Proactively identify and implement enhancements in recurring workflows without waiting for direction.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree preferably in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration with a Finance concentration.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in corporate finance or professional services.
- Experience within retail, consumer goods, or multi-channel environments; direct exposure to brick-and-mortar, e-commerce, and/or wholesale channels preferred; specific retail sales and margin planning experience is advantageous.
- Ability to independently manage workload with self-review practices and proactive communication regarding status and challenges.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel including pivot tables, lookup functions (vlookup, xlookup, index-match), complex formulas, and multi-sheet/workbook financial modeling.
- Skill in creating clean, well-organized financial presentations.
- Strong analytical acumen to uncover root causes, detect trends, and assess business impacts beyond simple number reporting.
- Exceptional attention to detail and responsibility for accuracy and integrity of all outputs.
- Excellent organizational skills to juggle multiple deadlines in demanding settings without close supervision.
- Solid understanding of financial and accounting principles, including accrual accounting.
- Clear and concise communication capabilities, comfortable presenting financial information to managers and cross-functional partners.
