Job description

About the Role

This position acts as a finance business partner to the global Outcomes Research & Development (R&D) team within a technology-led utilities and energy environment. The role supports innovation and value creation through full-cycle financial planning, analysis, and operational support across actuals, budgets, forecasts, and long-range planning. It is focused on delivering meaningful insight, scalable planning tools, and scenario-based analysis to help R&D leaders make informed, customer-focused investment choices. Close collaboration with the Project Management Office (PMO), engineering teams, and senior R&D and corporate stakeholders is central to supporting resource allocation, portfolio health, and ongoing process improvement.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as a responsible finance partner to the global R&D organization, supporting innovation efforts that create long-term business and customer value in the utilities and energy space.
  • Build, review, and present monthly and quarterly financial reports for global R&D expenditure, calling out major drivers, variances, risks, and opportunities, and suggesting timely corrective actions where needed.
  • Own and contribute to annual budgeting, rolling forecast cycles, and long-range planning for R&D, making sure the numbers reflect strategic goals, innovation plans, and customer outcomes.
  • Improve budgeting, forecasting, and reporting workflows so they become more transparent, efficient, and collaborative across teams.
  • Assess R&D investment patterns at both project and portfolio levels, including spend efficiency, portfolio health, and the financial effect of new product development and innovation pipelines.
  • Create, update, and enhance financial models that support scenario analysis, investment governance, and senior leadership decisions.
  • Work closely with R&D leaders, engineering, and the PMO to reflect project updates, resourcing changes, and schedule shifts in forecasts and financial plans.
  • Partner with R&D operating expense owners to deliver reliable forecasts, thoughtful variance analysis, and disciplined financial oversight for strategic initiatives.
  • Handle ad hoc reporting and analysis, confirm data accuracy, resolve inconsistencies, and maintain strong standards for financial integrity.
  • Contribute to strategic and operational efforts tied to R&D transformation, resource planning, and investment optimisation while helping drive change.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or another relevant business field.
  • Three to five years of experience in FP&A, strategic finance, or a similar analytical finance position.
  • Proven ability to work credibly with cross-functional partners and influence decisions through data-backed insight.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with a consistent focus on accountability and precision.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, changing environment while balancing several priorities effectively.
  • Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to explain complex financial information to varied audiences.

Preferred Experience

  • MBA and/or PMP certification.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; familiarity with Power BI is an advantage.
  • Strong working knowledge of Oracle Cloud EPM Planning or a similar cube-based planning and reporting system.
  • Experience creating and managing financial models that generate insight, support scenario planning, and uncover optimisation opportunities.
  • Confidence in questioning the status quo, encouraging change, and driving continuous improvement in a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Strong organisational ability and the capacity to make progress in a hybrid setting with both virtual and in-office work.

Benefits

  • Purpose-led work contributing to solutions for major global challenges in water, energy, and gas management.
  • Career growth in an important finance hub within a multinational organisation with global reach.
  • Competitive compensation package that includes salary, pension, health insurance, flexible working arrangements, study support, and parking.

Compensation

The expected annual gross salary for this position is between EUR 60,000 and EUR 70,000, depending on experience. Compensation is reviewed regularly to remain competitive.
