Job description

Role overview

Biffa is looking for a commercially aware finance professional to take charge of accounting, management accounting, and financial reporting for selected business units within the division. Working closely with operational leaders, including site and location managers, you will help ensure financial data is accurate, controls remain strong, and internal procedures are followed. The position is based in Taunton and follows a hybrid working arrangement.

This is a full-time, permanent role that plays a key part in improving business performance through clear reporting, practical insight, and close collaboration across finance and operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Take ownership of monthly management accounts for assigned business units, including variance analysis and commentary on performance.
  • Prepare monthly reporting packs that are accurate, timely, and suitable for divisional and business reporting needs.
  • Handle monthly capital expenditure reporting and forecasting, with analysis against approved budgets and investment plans.
  • Work with Finance Business Partners and operational teams to build budgets, forecasts, and five-year strategic plans.
  • Combine divisional budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans for submission to Central Finance.
  • Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations in line with Group policies and financial controls.
  • Assist with the year-end audit by maintaining strong supporting evidence and answering auditor questions.
  • Provide financial analysis and insight to support informed commercial decisions across the business.
  • Manage monthly customer invoicing activities, ensuring outputs are accurate and completed on time.
  • Support colleagues across the Divisional Finance Team to maintain service continuity during absences.
  • Contribute to ad hoc analysis, projects, and wider business initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduate level or part-qualified accountant with a background in CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or AAT.
  • Prior experience in management accounting, including period-end activities, purchase orders, and sales invoicing.
  • Strong Excel capability and solid overall IT skills.
  • Good organisational ability, with the capacity to prioritise work and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to work well with finance, operational, and commercial stakeholders.
  • A proactive attitude, flexibility, and openness to learning new skills.
  • Able to work independently, solve problems effectively, and stay composed under pressure.
  • Experience in the service, logistics, or waste sector would be beneficial.
