Job description

About the company

iwoca supports small and medium-sized businesses with finance designed to move at their pace. Its technology, data-led approach, and customer support are built to help business owners handle cash-flow pressure and act quickly when opportunities arise. The company has already helped 100,000 businesses with more than £4 billion in funding and aims to support one million SMEs in key moments that shape their growth.

Role overview

iwoca is hiring a Collections Specialist (m/f/d) to manage debt recovery and collections activity in a way that protects customer relationships while improving outcomes for the business and its clients. The position suits someone who works well in a fast-moving, service-oriented environment and can balance empathy with commercial judgement.

What you will do

  • Manage a large volume of customer accounts in arrears from start to finish, each with its own circumstances and challenges.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing calls, letters, and emails with accuracy, care, and strong service standards.
  • Develop ongoing customer relationships through regular contact to understand, verify, and resolve breaches of agreement.
  • Agree, apply, and track realistic repayment plans that reflect the customer’s situation while still protecting the company’s interests.
  • Collaborate with teams across the business to assess each account and choose the most suitable recovery approach.
  • Work alongside Collections Management and the Head of Collections to improve and refine recovery strategies.
  • Coordinate with third parties such as debt collection agencies and paralegals, and monitor their progress to drive the best possible result.
  • Ensure all activity follows relevant legislation, regulatory guidance, company policies, and internal procedures.
  • Protect and represent the company’s reputation throughout the collections process.
  • Keep records, databases, and systems fully updated so activities, observations, and outcomes are accurately documented.

Requirements

  • You should be comfortable using AI tools in practical ways to solve problems, improve output, and work more efficiently, while also being able to judge when their use is appropriate and explain your reasoning.
  • You need German language ability at C1 level so you can speak confidently with clients, negotiate arrangements, and manage difficult conversations.
  • Ideally, you will bring around 1 year of debt recovery experience, preferably in a commercial or business environment.
  • You should be empathetic, patient, professional, and able to handle pressure with composure.
  • Strong communication, attention to detail, and confidence are important for this role.
  • You must be able to respond quickly to varied challenges, think creatively, and adapt on the spot.
  • Commercial awareness, an entrepreneurial mindset, and enthusiasm for supporting SMEs are highly valued; experience in financial services is an added advantage.

Culture and working style

iwoca values independent thinking, evidence-based decisions, and challenging weak assumptions. The company encourages learning, growth, and autonomy so people can develop in the direction that suits them best. It also places strong emphasis on AI-enabled work and provides access to tools and infrastructure that help employees use modern models effectively.

Office and environment

  • Offices are located in London, Leeds, Berlin, and Frankfurt, with drinks and snacks available.
  • The workplace includes community activities such as running groups, padel, and monthly ping-pong and pool competitions.

Benefits

  • An international, motivated team of more than 35 nationalities with a strong growth mindset.
  • 26 days of annual leave plus an extra day off for your birthday.
  • One fully paid sabbatical month after four years of service.
  • Mental health support with direct access to certified psychologists through OpenUp.
  • Seasonal team trips, including a winter ski chalet experience and summer travel abroad.
  • Gym membership support of €25 for Fit711 or Urban Sports Club.
  • €30 toward the Deutschlandticket.
  • Company pension coverage through Canada Life.
  • Central Frankfurt office location, with the Berlin office in Prenzlauer Berg.
  • A paid volunteer day to support a charity of your choice.
  • Access to corporate discounts.
  • Fully stocked office fridges with snacks and drinks.
  • Learning and development support, including a book budget.
  • Budget support for learning German.
  • Company-wide talks with internal and external speakers.
  • Access to learning platforms such as Treehouse.

Compensation

The expected base pay for this role is €34,000 to €46,000, with a broader compensation range of €36,000 to €46,000. Applicants are invited to share their salary expectations during the process. Salaries are regularly benchmarked against market levels and reviewed quarterly.
