About the Role
This position calls for someone with firsthand knowledge of the building and construction sector to help deliver suicide awareness and prevention initiatives for MATES in Construction as a Field Officer.
You will help create safe opportunities for conversations, learning, and advocacy for workers facing mental health challenges or personal hardship. This will be done through training sessions, regular visits to worksites, and linking people with the right support services.
The role is varied and will suit someone who is adaptable, able to work independently, and motivated by the chance to make a meaningful difference. The employer is specifically looking for a candidate based on Brisbane's northside.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent and promote the MATES in Construction program throughout the industry.
- Deliver program activities at construction sites and, where suitable, across other MATES industries.
- Develop and sustain relationships with stakeholders at both new and established sites to grow awareness of the program.
- Help build and strengthen on-site volunteer networks, including connectors and ASIST workers.
- Arrange and conduct training for workers focused on suicide prevention and support.
- Assist construction workers who are experiencing difficulties and connect them with appropriate support pathways.
- Keep accurate records and maintain data and statistics on an ongoing basis.
- Take on additional tasks that support brand development and program delivery when needed.
Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate will have practical experience in the Australian building and construction industry and be confident engaging with the stakeholders involved. Prior work experience within construction is specifically required.
A sincere commitment to increasing awareness around suicide prevention and mental health in the construction environment is essential.
You should be comfortable leading sessions, presenting to groups, and delivering programs effectively.
The role also needs a calm, steady, and adaptable approach, especially when working in a fast-changing environment.
Strong self-management skills are important, including the ability to work autonomously and prioritise your own workload.
Travel will be required from North Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast, with additional travel to North Queensland as needed.
