Role overview
Stowe Australia is inviting experienced Fibre Technicians to express interest in a full-time role supporting project work across Melbourne, Adelaide, and the Northern Territory. The position is engaged through the Melbourne office, with travel to job sites as needed. Travel expenses and accommodation or other living-away-from-home costs are paid by the company. Work is generally organised on a three-week rotation.
Key responsibilities
- Perform fibre optic splicing and jointing tasks.
- Assemble connectors and complete fibre terminations, including polishing and finishing the end face.
- Test fibre networks and diagnose faults.
- Prepare fibre and manage cable handling activities.
- Carry out cable hauling over extended distances.
- Maintain strong standards of workmanship, safety, and quality on site.
- Adapt to a variety of project settings, including remote work locations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with supervisors, project teams, and clients.
Preferred experience and qualifications
- Hands-on experience in fibre splicing.
- Capability in connector assembly and fibre termination work.
- Competence in connector polishing and end-face finishing.
- Ability to conduct testing and fault-finding.
- Experience in fibre preparation and cable hauling over long distances.
- Background on construction, communications, or infrastructure projects.
- Comfort working away from home on a rostered cycle.
- Strong focus on safety and quality.
- Current White Card or Construction Induction certification.
- Current driver’s licence.
- ACMA Open Cabling Registration or a relevant telecommunications qualification is advantageous.
Additional desirable qualifications
The following would be especially beneficial:
- Certificate III in Telecommunications or an equivalent qualification.
- Certificate III in Electrical work or an A Grade Electrical Licence.
- Experience in remote or regional locations.
- Exposure to major communications, defence, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
- First Aid certification.
- EWP, Working at Heights, or similar site-specific tickets.
